    UPDATE:

I was on the phone last night for about an hour or more with my local dealer, Toyota corporate and then both.
As their recall letter states, the "remedy" is not yet available, we gotta wait until probably early or mid 2016. What was pointed out to me on the phone was that in a safety recall the government is involved so that forces Toyota's hand and it does not allow them to take care of the recall by allowing individual owners to get reimbursed for their own solutions - period.
For many of us (myself included) waiting until Toyota has their shit together is a non-option due to frowning, sagging and even broken leaf springs (1,000lbs payload my ass, with my 200lbs camper shell alone I'm riding on the overload springs). This I pointed out to them and they offered to replace my shitty springs right now with what they have available free of charge. I countered that those are the same crappy springs they are recalling and those would do me no good. I asked if I could get aftermarket springs of my choice now and get reimbursed for that while waiting for the real remedy in 2016. They were kind of beating about the bush giving a straight answer but this seems possible. Dealer didn't like it obviously but corporate person did haha. I'm going to try that route. Whenever the real remedy becomes available I'll go get that too but I'll ask that the dealer just give me the parts which I will then sell. If they insist they'll also have to install them that's fine with me. I'll let them do the work and then immediately swap back in my aftermarket springs I'm buying shortly and sell the "remedy". Kind of a hassle but hopefully, I'll end up with the leaf springs I really want plus some cash to burn.

Sorry for the novel, I hope this helps other folks out a bit.

Broke a leaf monday, called tuesday, dropped off tuesday and was given a 2016 corolla rental/loaner... odd thing is they called yesterday (wednesday) to confirm that the springs were a "candidate for replacement"...

Either whomever makes the final decision is not on the crew that had to visually inspect it tuesday, or they wanted to reinspect the frame they undercoated last year to see if the truck was even worth a pair of their precious springs, lol.

I really got no bitch... a broken leaf in an 8yo truck that tows with 148k on it is not totally outta left field. I can tolerate a week in a vanilla roller skate to get it fixed gratis. .02

Went to the dealer. They said they are 99.9% sure that if I ordered new leaf springs I would get reimbursed. Just keep the invoice.

On 27 Dec 2015, I wrote this to Toyota US Customer service:

Although I had contacted Toyota USA Customer Service to give them my contact info in Canada for recalls, I have never received a recall notice on this problem. Initially after purchase due to a Technical Service Bulletin the local dealer in Nova Scotia replaced my 3 leaf springs with what they called "Beefed up 3 leaf springs" because some customers found the 4 leafs to be too harsh a ride. I was not given the choice and therefore I feel mine were replaced with exactly the same type as came off. My leafs are flat with no load in the box and tilts slightly to one side. I have 45000 miles on my truck and want to have some idea when this recall will be completed.

    On 2 Jan 2016, I received this:

Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. We are sorry to hear of your concerns with your Toyota Tacoma. At this time, Toyota has not yet released the recall repair, and regrettably we do not have a time frame as to when we expect to do so. We apologize accordingly.

If we may be of further assistance, please contact us via email or by calling 800-331-4331. We are available from 5 AM to 6 PM, Pacific Time, Monday through Friday, and from 7 AM to 4 PM Saturday.

We have documented your comments at our National Headquarters under file #1601021241.

Well Rob B. at Toyota Customer Service, Thanks a lot for more lip service.

I've gotten 2 notices regarding this recall from Toyota. Basically saying we have this problem and are in the process of determining a course of action. The second saying, we haven't forgot about you... Lol.
I'm getting a new frame that will come with new springs and they will be replaced when the recall goes into action.

Well maybe if I ever get my two recall notices, I can stick them in my left spring and it will take some of the tilt out of it. :)

Eventually... Do you realize, Toyota is already replacing the leaf springs. I got a new set of springs when my truck was getting the frame replaced.

There are a lot of frames being replaced around the country and that's a lot of leaf springs being installed. I'm willing to bet - they're taking care of the frame replacement customers first & foremost. The frame rust warranty expires March of this year. You might get notifications after March.

That's just a guess based on supply & demand.

    The voice of reason...
If Toyota learned anything from their last frame fiasco, they wouldn't need to be replacing frames this time.
Same goes with the springs... every other brand of truck on the road comes with truck springs not car springs like Tacoma's come with.
And I've heard whatever springs come with the new frame replacement still have to switched out whenever they decide what they are doing with the spring recall.

I was told this isn't the case. The springs we have are going to stay.

This is ridiculous, called today and still nothing. My truck sits about 2" lower in the rear and if i have a full tank of gas i lose another inch and half or so on the drivers side. Was pulling a small trailer this weekend with about 400lbs on it centered over the axle and hit a bump at highway speeds. For a moment thought i was going to wreck cause the back of the truck was all over the place and then the trailer started swaying and i couldnt get it to straighten out. Asked them about reimbursement and was told i would have had to buy new spring before the recall and theres nothing they can offer me except for an apology and they understand the frustration of not being able to use a vehicle to its capabilities. Give me a break

I bet if you had plowed into a tree and killed yourself we would all be receiving our new leaf springs finally.... But since nobody got hurt nothing will happen :( Silly how they can have an active recall years old and not offer any solution if your truck isn't already completely damaged. Glad to hear you're alright though, more so that you know how to properly load a trailer!

It says pretty clearly in the paperwork, that if you perform repairs to remedy the issue, they will reimburse...my paperwork even came with a form to send back if I am asking for reimbursement for repairs. I have been tempted to just throw a set of Dakars on for $500 and have Toyota pay me for them.
