If you've got the cash, go for it and it will give you piece of mind but there's allot you can
do audio wise for that $700 bucks. I can't imagine there's too much to think about volume wise
as you're dealing with a specific space. If I were building it, I'd just do like Easylivin did above and fill that
space. My issue is I don't want to short circuit the new ride :D so I'll be having someone do it. My
plan right now is to have an enclosed sub put in that space and that's it for right now.

On these type of boxes, they are all usually too small from the ideal size. You just build them as big as will fit and then choose a sub that will work in that size box.

There's plenty of 8s that get down. Sundown and Digital Design comes to mind. Don't be fooled by size.

But why buy 8" when you can get 15"?

there are a ton of subs on the market, it all depends on sound characteristics and what you want to do with it. We have a big 4 and 5 inch coiled sub with the latter weighing 123# and can literally take 5-10kw for hours without skipping a beat.

For allot of these subs its box, but limited in the tacoma to what type of box can be built really makes life a little more tough if you want big bass. The solution, Buy the best SQL sub you can get, Build the biggest box you can and toss as much power at it you can afford. I know of a way to get 2 2kw amps and enough space for 2 10s ported (only slightly cramped/ not optimal) so it will be super punchy but won't reach the RAP Low droning bass.

But for reference, the best bang for your dollar would be the shok triton 8s or 10s. You can easily fit multiples, 4 triton 8s or maybe even 4 10s, not sure. I have yet to build one with 4 10s and based on the cost, i don't think anything ells can compare. Put a nice 2kw amp on them and your off. IF your budget is larger, you can go to the sundown SD3's with the same power but i highly doubt there will be much of a difference

What kind of box is that? Did you have to take off the plastics off the seats? Or just the storage plastics? & one more question, how does it sound

They are JL microsubs, I posted a link on the first page of this thread. The plastic on the back of the seats is still there, but that's it. Everything else had to go. It sounds awesome!

I want good quality sound at all volumes. What would you recommend for subs and Amp? I'm thinking Alpine R seize rates in the front and R series speakers in the rear doors.

With three subs, you'll need a sealed enclosure, of course. This isn't a bad thing, especially if you enjoy range in your music. It will be about 3db less than ported, but more musically aesthetic. At any rate, I've been a long time JL Audio consumer, but only for amps, subs, and miscellaneous (Clean Sweep). I'm not too keen on their components and coaxials. I prefer a "brighter" sound than they typically offer. Memphis Audio has been my weapon of choice for high-end (door speakers) sound. Competitively priced, durable, and great sound quality (for my ears).
For amplifiers, make sure that you get a quality unit. The old adage of "one dollar per watt" is a bit dated, but it is certainly something to keep in the back of your mind as you shop. Don't get cheap on yourself. You'll end up regretting it down the road.
Subwoofers, not enough can be said about JL products. Many here (and elsewhere) prefer other companies/products, and that is 100% ok by me. I can say that I have owned my fair share of JL subs and have never been disappointed. Since using their products beginning in 1998, I've only had one sub "blown", and it was just recently (13TW5). I've had the original W6, the W3, the newer W6, and the TW5. Happy with them all. I can't speak on Sundown, etc. as I have never owned or even heard them (just not that popular in my area).
If you respect your music, give it what it deserves- quality delivery. Just my $0.02

It is fine. I have heard quite a few people complain about it, but I went with good wiring (Mediabridge 14 gauge copper) and spent time tuning the setup. To each his own, but I think the cab is far too small to pump a gigantic system in it. For all around listening, I am completely content.

Cab is more than big enough for any size system :) I had 20kw and 4 15s walled in mine, I had 18s, 1 15, 2 15s 4 10s name it. Truck does well, but does take allot more effort and gear to get as loud as others

I bet your neighbors love you lol...... That being said, I am sure you had to do some wizardry to make all that fit appropriately!

That setup looks awesome. I am seriously considering a similar setup so I can build a slightly larger box for my 10". Are those boxes ported?

naw, just didn't have back seats. I first played with the idea of modified seats, you can actually move the rear bench seat forward by i think 3 or more inches and build a small bracket that pushes the seat back 1 hole forward. I had 2 15s cramped in there.... that didn't last long. Then pulled the seats out and put 2 15s in there, was loud and nice but wasn't satisfied as the damn roof skin ripped off the roof ribs and the rear window was having issues. Then i walled the beast, fun but a PITA and never fully finished but did fantastic on numbers and was super super loud and ran Db drag SS 3-4. My goal was to break a 160 in the class but sadly, i got close and decided that i need the truck more as a wheeler.

Now I'm working on a design, a big L shaped box that Trimmed infinity G35 rear seat fit onto. Box is about 6 CF with 72SQ port tuned 30hz. The nice thing is, when i go camping and wheeling, i pull the seats out( their basically foam with leather over it) and slide my fridge in.

You can buy 8" or 10" microsubs and it comes with the box shown, and yes it is ported. The box for the 10 is of course a bit larger than for the 8 and I'm not sure if it would fit. If you're building your own box, you can just get the sub, which is a JL 10w3v3. I think the great thing about the microsubs is the quality boxes they come in, specifically built for those subs to make them sound awesome.

Has anybody tried the shallow-mount Pioneer subs? I know they are not known for their subwoofers, but I have heard some good things about these. I was also looking at the shallow mount Rockford subs...
