Yeah he's not going anywhere for a while. The cycle just continues on and on. Now we will give him his time with this kid that is to be our savior. Not knocking him but he's been so built up over the last couple of years I'm afraid he'll be a disappointment in that we have such high expectations of him. But it continues on, same thing every year. Just wait until this kid comes in, this coordinator, or whatever.

I've come to the conclusion that Richt isn't a great coach but is a great recruiter and the talent is what carries him but when he gets to the big games it takes both and we ultimately fail. So many fans here are apparently afraid of change and are content with 9-10 wins and a Capitol One Bowl. It's gotten old to me. I'm ready to take the chance of falling vs moving forward. There is a saying that if you aren't moving forward you're moving backwards. Well I know which way we're heading then. If the powers that be know what to look for in a coach and are willing to pay the price with the talent we have we should be a power but most here are to afraid of failing.

I'm not going to say that Richt won't bring us a championship but odds are against it based on what we've seen

A lot of schools would like to get 10 wins a season. From what little I know about him he is a good and decent man.

So much butthurt in there. Jesus.

Also, who told that guy the SEC was created in 1992? It expanded to 12 teams in 1992 and played the first conference championship in 1992, but the SEC has been around since 1932. Derp.

And I wonder why he didn't go back a little further to define the beginning of his 'modern era.' In the year before his era starts, Alabama (a juggernaut) won the NC. He could go all the way back to 1985 to make his point even stronger... the winners were:
    • 1985-Oklahoma
    • 1986-Penn State
    • 1987-Miami
    • 1988-Notre Dame
    • 1989-Miami
    • 1990-Ga Tech
    • 1991-Miami/Washington
    • 1992-Alabama
I imagine he doesn't want to go back further b/c there's an inconvenient truth in 1990 - A non-juggernaut won the national title. [pause for effect] Then in 1991, another non-juggernaut got the nod from the UPI and USAT/CNN Coaches Poll, while Miami won the AP trophy.

And boo hoo about the 2011 pokes. Don't lose to lowly Iowa State and you're in the game.

And yes, Big 12 teams play every other team in their conference, but with equal records, the other conference champions played a whole extra game last year against an opponent of at least moderate quality - they did make it to the conference championship, after all - so tell me why they shouldn't be given the nod over a split-conference champion?

BTW... I'm not asking YOU these questions, @Pistol Pete, they're mostly rhetorical and aimed at the guy who wrote it, whom I can't ask anything.

Post Script - I guess this guy doesn't think the Colley-Matrix is legit, b/c CM awarded Okie State with the NC in 2011!! Hang the banner! Of course, CM also awarded Notre Dame the national championship in 2012, the year that Alabama obliterated them in the BCS NC game, so maybe I wouldn't give it much merit either.

I couldn't even finish the article. It is so poorly written, and completely hypocritical while falling in on itself, that I just couldn't go on. I do however, have a few things I wrote down, before I succumbed to the quit.

    1. Laws and theories cant coexist. If something is a law, it is past the theory stage. And that, my friends is a given. (fancy I know). So stating that an "unknown law of juggernauts" is his theory really somewhat killed the entire piece for me. I decided her to trudge on, looking for sense, common or otherwise, in hopes that it would flood through the article soon. My hopes were dashed.

    2. He goes on to write about the advancement of athletes in the modern day, and how today's athletes have a hand up. No shit? Really? You're kidding me, I would have never thought that with the education of athletes and trainers, along with advancement of technology, that athletes could possibly improve from eating raw eggs and running....Fuck me right? Here's the deal. The playing field was level and even, throughout all of time. So, this point is moot.

    3. I have no clue where this dude gets his stats, but damn....1992? SEC created in 1992? And what in the actual fuck does ESPN the deuce have to do with, well, anything. I'm pretty sure ESPN was covering college sports...like, always. So....at this point in time my head is hurting. I have raised my hand to tap out, and fought through the pain, and decided to fight this with all of my being.

    4. I mentioned I'm ready to tap out...so my memory is foggy, and I can easily go to google right now and find this info, but I'm at work, so...I don't want to spend that much more time. Auburn. 2004. Undefeated. Snubbed. Snubbed? Please someone correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't Auburn on probation or a bowl ban that year?

Either way. This article is Junior High stuff at best. I didn't even make it all the way through. I can get past the martyrdom of the Big 12, momentarily, but it is typically stifled by, HOW CAN YOU CLAIM TO HAVE A CONFERENCE CHAMPION WHEN YOUR SYSTEM OF SUCH ISNT DEFINITE. It isn't exhausting, it leaves shit to be questioned. How hard is it to toss in a championship game? Hell, drop an OOC and add a CCG and BOOM you now have a stonger schedule, and a championship game.

I wasn't sure what his point was here, either.

No, they were snubbed. Oklahoma and USC were 1/2 in pre-season polls that year and they never lost. I don't remember where the barn started out, but they climbed and climbed, but never overtook either team. I think they would have played Oklahoma better than USC did that year, but that's too bad. There were three undefeated teams, and it's hard to play a game with three teams so auburn was left out.

His biggest point, is that you cant tell by rankings how good a team is. Ok. Fair enough. However, Coaches, and "experts" we'll call them, can watch 10 games, and by watching the play, execution of plays, athleticism, etc. can tell you who the best teams are. Who the best players are. Couple that with coaching and you can somewhat determine who the better team will be. Is that to say that the favorite always wins? No...ask Vegas...lol.

I liken college football to boxing. Yes, the underdog can win. But, usually, the technically sound, stronger, faster, better coached fighter wins.

They are trying to place the best two teams on the field. I would hope that the "committee" would look a little deeper than rankings, and just use the rankings as a reward, not a measuring stick.

I've never said I don't like him, I think he is a great man and I admire him. But as a coach he's not doing enough with the amount of talent we have had during his tenure so I just feel it's time for a change. I would love to see him win a championship, just don't think it will happen.

I don't think HE is the problem, directly. Maybe so, Indirectly. As in, who he chooses to have on his staff.

    From South Carolina...

South Carolina is scheduled to end the season at home against rival Clemson at noon on November 28, but not if one Gamecocks fan can help it.

Jay Seleskyof Columbia, South Carolina has started ononline petitionto push back the start time of the rivalry game against the top-ranked Tigers because, quite frankly, South Carolina has played enough noon games this season.

“Noon games can be fun every once in a while, but not for more than half of the season,” Selesky writes on the petition’s website. “They leave less time for tailgating before the game, most college students are tired from getting up early to make the most out of tailgating, and the atmosphere of a [mid-day] game isn’t nearly what it can be during an afternoon game or night game.”

These are all valid points, but we all know none of that gets televised by the networks that shell out the big bucks to air games. Seleseky’s goal is to have the game moved back to the middle of the afternoon or early evening.

South Carolina has had six games scheduled for a noon kickoff, including this weekend’s game against The Citadel and next week’s game against Clemson. Games against UCF, Missouri, Texas A&M and Florida were all scheduled for noon kicks as well. The noon timeslot has typically served as the appetizer for the rest of the day’s action and rarely features top matchups. South Carolina’s struggles this season have contributed in part to the plethora of noon kicks in Columbia. (9:00 am Pacific)

Shit happens. Like Notre Dame's Zaire and the broken ankle?

Yeah, Richt gets an excuse every year.

But it's not about that. It's about him continually not getting the potential out of our players. So many times over the years we've been outplayed by teams with much less talent and we hardly ever rise to beat top 10 teams. I think we're like 5-15 vs top 10 over the last 7 years.

I agree with all of this, we're just now having our first 3:30 home game against BS competition and almost ever other home game has been at noon.

Every team you invite into a playoff, you devalue the regular season. Debates aren't going away with 8 teams either as there will still be conflict over 6,7,8. I believe 6 teams is a fair amount as it gives conference champs in and a highest ranked wild card. Or if you want just the 6 top ranked teams, it would at least only include 1 loss teams.

They don't use any outside polls as a basis to start rankings. Hell they don't even work off the previous weeks rankings. They go in with a blank sheet of paper every week. And if you say that's all bullshit and just talk Long gives the media, then how can you not believe that even more subconscious biases go into ranking teams and why we should have a portion of the final ranking based on raw computer rankings. Leading to my next point: Yes, they pull data from computers (stats, not rankings), but they take them and put human interpretations on them. I am referring to how the BCS had 1/3 of the final rankings based on pure computer algorithms ranking the teams. This eliminated the ability of humans to skew and interpret them. Yes, the computer data pulls go "into" the rankings, but the computers don't have actual weight.

We definitely got the shaft on game times this year.

Smag getting the nod again this weekend. If I never see Golson take a snap in an FSU jersey again, it will still be too soon.

Fun Stat: FSU is the only team in the nation that has not allowed more than 25 points in a game this season.

    Notre Dame Fighting Irish
    Coach of the year?

If anyone asks me, Brian Kelly is -- as of now -- the national coach of the year. He's winning with a rash of season-ending injuries. He's winning with a backup quarterback. He's winning with the usual academic hurdles getting kids in school. He's winning despite a daunting schedule. Yes, I said daunting. The Irish will have played six ranked teams. That's more than Alabama, Ohio State and Clemson.

If the Irish get to the playoff, Kelly will have positioned Notre Dame for two championship shots in four years. Can the NFL be far behind for Kelly?

I believe that there is entirely too much subconscious bias. Hence why Alabama is in over undefeated teams...and why Ohio State is even considered with a schedule like that. Notre Dame is in, because of a "quality loss" against Clemson. There really isn't a clear cut way to choose who is in, in a four team format. Same would happen with six. Eight teams gives you the power 5 champs, with 3 one loss teams, or even undefeated teams like Utah or a Boise St, that don't "get love" because they aren't a "juggernaut".
