Trailer brakes and tow ratings can spark a ton of discussions. Everyone has their own "I've been doing this for years" story. Sometimes you can get away with pushing the limits and sometimes thing go terribly wrong.

For my Taco the GVWR is 4900lbs which seems like a lot, but that really means total load that my vehicle can safely transport. Given that my truck is 3765lbs empty; you have about 1135 left over. That's what I could "safely" haul (in the truck cab/bed/or trailer) before you overload the brakes. Given my fat arse and things I keep in the truck; and that number may be around 850lbs.

Now tow rating for my truck is 3400, so that must mean I can pull a 3400 trailer with no brakes. Probably not a good idea. Even a 2000lb trailer with eat brakes and probably strain the transmission. I could also get into a situation where I can't stop if someone pulls in front me (which happens about every day here in Floriduh). As always, your mileage will vary, but these are the rules I use to keep me and my fam safe.

So it looks like I need a new battery. What is the best one to get? Optima? Do they make those with the extra small terminals for accessories?

Diehards are just as bad as Optima IMO. Already replaced one under warranty and know of several others up here that have as well.
