I have had my ARB bumper on for over 10yrs now and while off-roading it has taken some minor hits, held my winch and lights securely, and been a great visual addition to my Tacoma.
Until a couple of weeks ago, mine had never been used for its initial design - to keep animals from damaging the truck (kangaroos in Australia (ARB's HQ) or deer here in Missouri).
I can now attest to its durability - not everyone likes a plate bumper but it provides optimum protection from heads or hooves going through the grill, radiator, etc.
After hitting and driving over the deer I stopped to assess the damage to my truck and there was NONE! The impact did shift the bumper up on the passenger side up 3/8" which required me to loosen 3 bolts, re-position the bumper and tighten the bolts. In 10 min there was no evidence of any impact!

I'd have taken photos but there was nothing to show.

First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
Nice testament to the strength of the ARB bumpers bower2002.

I love mine! Brings me comfort knowing that heavy plate steel beast is there, between me and whatever I may encounter :)

Arb however, i believe offer the only bumper that actually have crumple zones to try and protect the frame and they are also airbag complient. If it were any other bumper there would pry be more frame damage and the bags might have deployed. Im referring to the link posted above btw...

Yes. My ARB has crush zones and is supposed to be airbag compliant/compatible.
And the link above is for a 2nd gen - a different truck for sure - first hand knowledge as I installed an ARB on my brothers '08.

It's designed to minimize the hazard to the occupants in the vehicle. While they've made great strides in designing them to be as close to OEM as they can. Point being, you may walk away with a bent frame and a totaled truck but you walk away.

I know, I know, but as stated in the original post - there was nothing to show of damage or dead deer.

so here is a dead deer - killed by me.
    enjoy :)
