LtTaco, did your Limited arrive as promised without a cover? I had one coming and dealer said it was coming without a cover. Called today to say it was here but "they were unable to remove the cover" (that they clearly knew was coming but did not disclose). Asked if I would like the truck with the cover at no charge. Dealer then said that Limiteds don't come without cover. Trying to decide what to do.

I did not have one. It is not a standard accessory for any model. it's an add on.

If they are giving it to you for free, I'd probably take it.

(OP I realize the decision was made long ago...just for anyone searching)

This is my first truck purchase (first new car for that matter!), so my first tonneau. I must say, the pics I saw of the stock one really put me off initially because it looked like it didn't fit properly in some of them. My truck came with it and I must say it actually fits really well. I think I noticed why the back isn't down and tightly sealed in the pics--the rear latches capture the post regardless of whether you close it softly or try to slam it. You have to push down and compress the gasket further to actually click it into place.

I have not been in the rain yet, so I cannot speak for it's weather worthiness (I hope it seals). But as far as fit and finish, so far so good. A point of concern in the long run would be the soft rubber seals between the sections. But best of all, it's covered in the 3/36.

Thanks again, LtTaco. I appreciate the info and the advice about taking the free cover. I'm torn. The free part is obviously a plus. But this is my first truck and I never really had a cover in mind going into this process. Figured I'd enjoy the open bed for a while - being able to throw stuff back there without a thought - and then, if it really seemed as if the way I end up using the truck calls for a cover, I'd get an aftermarket. The criticisms I've read about the factory cover has added to my reluctance.

May seem like a silly question, but do all these tonneau covers have to be opened up when the bed is unlocked?

I would take it at no charge. You're not losing anything and you can sell it and make some money back.

This may have been posted, but the 2016 Tuck bed will allow water into to it due to gaps between the sides and back. You will need to seal it or put some material to prevent leaks.

No, some have their own lock on the top... most are accessed by opening the tailgate.

Awesome. I plan on keeping skis in my bed during the winter and was hoping it wouldn't be easy to get into the bed with a cloth cover.

Contacted Bakflip today. Sales said the Engineers say 30-60 days out. I told him thats what was said 60 days ago! They wont take pre-orders. Not a fan of the Extang as it sits above the bed. Looking at the Bakflip F1 or Gator FX3. I think I'm sold on the Bakflip.

Well just got the bad news that they were unable to get the factory cover removed from my build like they said. Kinda pissed. For those that have the factory cover, where are the sweet spots for adjustments? I know I read a couple of people saying that you could fine tune them.

Pace Edwards just confirmed that they have completed the new design for the 2016 Tacoma. They make a really cool electric cover that is remote operated and can stop in any position. My truck came with the factory tonneau and I was worried that any aftermarket company would have problems with the install due to the pins and cut outs from the OEM cover. After talking with a customer support specialist at Pace Edwards they informed me that their engineers have a supplemental install instructions for those trucks that came with the factory cover. I wont be doing the install myself, but I'm glad to hear there will be specific instructions for trucks with this factory cover. Will post pics in a few weeks when cover is installed, and will have a factory cover to sell if anyone is interested. Here is the link to the Pace Edwards product I am referring to.
