Was thinking the same thing. Must be snowing somewhere already.
Being from Florida, I'm not able to test ABS in snow, but it sucks in the rain, I can tell you that. If I lived where it snows, ABS would be disabled.

how does your abs kick in in tbe rain?? Mine has never done that, unless i purposely floor it, or mash the brakes.

I know this is a 2nd gen thread, but I think you all will appreciate this. I'm not even sure my 2016 has ABS! In 2000 miles I've locked up the front wheels 3 times!!! We've had a lot of rain and I'm getting used to driving a truck that doesn't grab like my Jeep, so that is part of it, but I have been really surprised those 3 times. I can feel the weight shift to the front and then the wheels just lock.

Tires definitely help with this issue. I'm really interested to see how my new setup rides this winter. Going from Dean Wintercat 265/75/16 to siped Toyo M55 255/85/16. I normally run studs in the winter, but didn't get them on the new tires.

Yeah welcome to the bunch.... unfortunately this will never get fixed until rear axle is not replaced with disc brakes. Drum never meant to work with ABS. They lock up too quickly throwing ABS out the door.
That means solution will only come when there is class action against Toyota.

I have typically found said conditions are usually present under the rubber at the moment in question.:)

For me, using winter rubber in the appropriate season has solved 90+% of my issues with the ABS

Rains a lot in florida, bunch of dumb ass, in a hurry, non driving ding dongs that can't drive in good weather. Added together that equals testing of ABS in the rain.:burnrubber:

yeah it does! I spent a whole summer/fall in volusia county after high school. We got nailed by a thunderstorm almost every single day! And the tstorms down there are much more energetic than up here. Mucho humidity to fuel them. I saw lightning strike directly across the street once. Almost blew my eardrums out! Don't mess with florida tstorms. It aint the lightning strike capital for nothing. The weather there is awesome. Haha too many grannies:crapstorm:

Well you get those grannies in winter but they move back to their New England homes for summer.
Once fall starts I see trucks hauling all those passenger cars with Florida license plates south on i95 . That means for us here, a couple months of normal driving and not being stuck behind Buick doing 25 in 45 MPH zone.

Or, the Disney exit is still 5 miles away, but lets go 40mph on I-4 until we get there.

Poppycock, ABS works perfectly fine with drums [heck, semi's even use ABS with drums] as long as it was set up properly and isn't overly sensitive. I had zero issues with my 2K Durango even running off road hard in soft sugar sand. My 1998 Sonoma has zero issues with rear drums and ABS [and I use it as a winter vehicle so a huge portion of it's time on the road is on ice and snow.]

This is nothing more then a poorly designed and underdeveloped computer algorithm.

Just because something is called the same way does not mean its the same. Nor is tuned. Sure if your system is tuned to not do crap it will not work.
Problem has nothing to do with the code, if it was it would be as easy as loading the code from another Toyota with out problems. Or you could just swap Tacoma ABS box one from lets say 4runner.
Does swapping fixes the problem ?
