I didn't go with the Cricket because I wasn't seeing the quality I wanted. I ended up getting a Savage Cub instead. It's a solid rifle, with excellent sights (aperture rear!). Say the word and I'm open for a show and tell...my house or yours. I might even be willing to sell if my littlest decides he'd rather shoot the AR...

For anyone looking at the Ruger American Rimfire (RAR) .22...we just got them at the Scout camp before summer. While the factory sights are OK, we installed Tech Sights to get the aperture rear and it was great. We had a significant increase in success on Merit Badge shooting. My oldest boy went from struggling with our old rifles to done in 40 minutes with the new ones. I'm one of the shooting sports directors up there, so I get to see a wide range of shooters and work with them from 5 yo and up.

Also remember the RAR comes with low and tall combs (iron vs scope), but you can also buy a shorter one with I think 1.5 inches shorter length of pull.

Reflectix insulation. It's just pressed into the recessed portion of window frame.

Hello Nick, I noticed you posted some pics and some info about your 255-85's on the other thread. I just got the phone call that my tires came in, and I will be having them mounted and balanced, ect.. tomorrow morning. I am getting the BFG KM2's.
I have a roughly 2.5" lift in the front 3" in the rear. My question is, if you don't mind, is do I need to instruct them anything special about Caster or Camber angles, or spacing, ect...?
One of my main reasons for getting the skinnies, is I did not want to have to do any chopping or retro fitting. I don't want spacers and figured the 255's are a great choice.

They should know exactly what to do...

if your lifted 2.5" with stock UCA, the very best your alignment shop will give you 0.5 camber, and about 0.8 caster, or less. Good techs will try and make the values the same or close for both sides. It's never gonna be perfect.

I actually have 0.3 caster right now on my pass side... lol

If you have aftermarket UCA, then they can get camber to 0, and caster above 2.

Toe should be very close to zero, but a smidge positive can be helpful.

Camber and toe affect tire wear, so those are the ones that should cared about the most. Caster affects handling.

 

Ok, that makes sense. I purchased them and having them installed at 4wp. I assumed they would check the alignment when they mount / balance them. I do have stock UCA's, so we'll see how close they can get. My knowledge on camber angles and toes comes from PS3 Gran Turismo So thanks for all the info!!

Truck update.

• El Nino, bring it, I got new wiper blade inserts!
• Lubed all exterior locks
• Used a heat gun to push back fender liner, make room for tires.
• Added some more weather stripping to complete my auxiliary weather seal project.
• Painted some stuff.
  
• Found and eliminated a new vibration on the truck, was factory mid skid vibrating into front diff at low RPMs. Removed and beat the living daylights out of skid with 4lb hammer. All good now.
  
• Installed new camber bolt on drivers side LCA. The original bolt gave up the ghost and is stripped to shit. $17 dollars at stealer. I tried the BGR method of removing the bolt but was unsuccessful. Had to pull the tire off, but that was all. Loving the impact gun, zip! zip! Bonus! The stealer did not have the camber nut in stock, but I had two brand new UCA nuts, and they are better than the LCA, so used that, so lucky!!!

 

MONEY. Hunit' dolla bills.

 

I think I'm gonna start this type of project soon.

 

Here is a quick explanation of how I'm doing my doors.

Deaden the outter skin with Noico Mat (damper / sound deadner), then cover that with Frost King duct insulation. (not pictured).



Then I greased the square nuts for the window track with grease. I also greased the window lift motor gear, and the scissors lift joint. Those things haven't seen maintenance in 6.5 years so hopefully the grease will prolong the window lift motor life.

I deadened the outter side of the inner skin which you can't see unless I put the camera in the door.
Then I sealed the holes.


Do whatcha can with whatcha got. I found some plastic in my garage.


Not knowing what I am doing, I started drawing on the plastic.


Made some random marks all over.


Rolled out the 40lb roll of MLV, (Oh, my back!)


Transferred the plastic to the vinyl and cut out shape. (no pic)

Then moved the cut out to the door, to test fit. I drilled two holes in the door 1/4" in size, and then painted the holes. The holes for some plastic pop rivets which hold the vinyl to the door. I used some

I tested them on some 1/8" plastic first.

Test fit good so used them.
Then I went about making new holes and trimming.


Starting poking more holes.


When I was happy with it, I took it down and traced the pattern out on a fresh cut of vinyl saving precious time. The reverse of the pattern fits the other side of the truck.

I was a dumb ass and tried to force it together, didn't break anything, but it turns out that I had too much vinyl around the clip holes. They have to be trimmed like in this photo. This was my final product the the passenger side.



The last step was to use a drywall knife to rake the Styrofoam in the door panel. I had to shave it down about 3/8"
