When I got my truck just over s year ago I brought my 2002 DCSB Prerunner into Autonation Toyota to get recalls taken care of. The fuel protector and lower ball joints were out for a recall so I went ahead with it. Shortly after the recalls, my truck had developed a knocking in the front end (Suspension/Drivability) that goes with he speed of the truck. I.e - if I drive fast the knock repeats very fast, if I drive slowly, the knocks repeats slowly. The noise has gotten progressively louder over time. I've taken the truck back in 2-3 times for the same noise. To my surprise, nothing has been found yet. I think there's a possibility either I got s defective ball joint, or the technician assembled my truck back together wrong. I went ahead and tried getting in contact with Toyota corporate earlier tonight. I'm waiting on a reply now. Does anyone have any clue what this noise may be or what my next steps should be?

If it speeds up when you go faster, then it is not a ball joint. It could be anything that is attached to the spindle (wheel bearing, brakes, etc.)

If they are checking this on a lift the noise may not be found .

Have they not road tested your truck and heard the noise ??

Bad tires can make some strange thumping noises which of course more then likely could be missed by the tech.

They did road test my truck, they heard the noise and confirmed it was there. But could not find the source exactly.

If it was a knock on the front end as in the spindles, you would feel it in the steering wheel or through the brakes. A knock is two pieces of metal making contact such as a connecting rod knock. It is very distinctive and very destructive. Are you 100% sure that it is on the front end?

    I'm
I'm almost 100% positive it's from the front end. I thought maybe my carrier bearing and replaced it but that wasn't it. And it's a knock I'm pretty sure

Try a different dealership, might luck out and find a different mechanic that has experienced this problem before.

I asked this guy a week ago or so to put up a little audio, probably 85%-90% of the time someone comes up with correct identification, audio troubleshooting, I mean who in hell can really explain it correctly over actually hearing it...?? Try to help & they blow you off....haha
