What do you mean when you say the ome shock locks the LCA to the frame?

The OME shock is too short, it does not allow enough travel. It is also valved too light. So when the truck operator goes over an obstacle such as a speed bump or a rock, the shock will extend on the backside of the obstacle and when it's fully extended it hits an internal stop. The internal stop is a weld on the shaft. It's a fucking harsh experience for the truck operator and all the passengers. It shakes the shit outta the truck. It makes people thing something is wrong with their install.

The shock is improperly designed IMO. I considered hiring an attorney to get my money back.

Therefore when I say, the OME shock functions like a chain shackle, it does, it limits suspension travel in the harshest way.

It is difficult to articulate with words the difference between the 5100 and the OME shock. But my experience was like night and day.

I think part of the problem is the OME 885's are intended to have 100lbs of weight on them to provide 2" of lift and nobody runs weight and everybody tries to get the magical 3"

That's been discussed before. But even in this thread there are comments about the harshness with armor:

Also I noted something different between the two shocks. When I had the 5100 out, I manually compressed it. It fully expanded in about 5 seconds, what I would consider normal. I performed this same test with the nitrocharger and it took something like 20 seconds to fully expand, maybe longer. Not sure if it's a defect or what, but both nitrochargers did this. Not sure why. Even so, that's a separate issue, and unrelated to the too-short length.

Why did OME valve the shock that way?

Yup. 886 are stiffer spring rate. But really, it's not the spring, its the shock. If that poster swapped shocks, he would have a totally different experience.

You are using a guy that runs 886 without armor as supporting material for your argument. The 886s are made for people who have a lot of armor. I have the 886s with a bumper and full skids and it drives just fine.
Yeah he could also change springs and it would be a totally different experience as well.

I don't necessarily disagree but my point was that if you look at the OME application guide it states the 885 coil is intended to provide 2" of lift with approx 100 lbs front weight . If you compressed the coil with 100lbs I'm suggesting it would be less likely to suffer from the quick top out effect on the back side of sharp bumps

If it works for you, then that's wonderful. For some of us, we have had a terrible experience with the product.

What I want is an expert who understands shock valving to explain to me why when I manually compress the OME shock it takes 20 or more seconds to expand?

To your point about extra weidht, my truck met that requirement, 80 lb of sliders, and 50 lb of roof rack. Hell it could be OME is putting out defective shocks!

Roof rack weight and about 1/2 the slider weight would be carried by the rear suspension

I have heard so many people complain about the same issue that I think may be oh OME should put a warning on their website saying that "these shocks are not intended for off-road use" or something like that... You would think that since OME is more expensive then Billy's that they would be better quality. But that does not seem to be the case

not doubting you , and it makes sense with the greater travel length of the 5100 , nor am I a staunch "OME is the best ever " fanboy , just saying I think a lot of the reason for Over Speed Bump Goes Clank is that the 885's are intended to provide 2" of lift with about 100lbs of front weight and almost no one on this site runs them like that , myself included

Do they not suck off-road? Only over speedbumps?

Generally the OSBGC happens on the backside of a sharp drop
