Maybe they did, it was Toyota's turn to win with a new '16 model.

It wouldn't make much noise if the Tacoma won, with the twins coming out. The market wouldn't change, and Toyota would continue to make the least amount of changes or improvements, because well, they own the market. Also, those Toyota engineers in Japan probably don't care much about what Motor Trend has to say.

Nothing against your obvious preference of the Colorado/Canyon or MT, but they have picked some....interesting past picks.

Folks obviously choose their own metrics and purchase what they want based on what they feel is important. For me, and ad reliant publication presenting an award to a product is right about at the bottom of the equation. But, it certainly is used by a lot of folks, so if that works for them so be it.

I think Toyota Tacoma will continue to dominate the midsize truck market like they have for years no matter what the reviews say or what people read on the internet. To this day they still out sell them all. Gotta love the Tacoma!!!

You know the thing you have to remember is that the trade rags all score the vehicles by their own standards. IMO, It's important to read their reviews for a particlular function but don't make a decision on a final score. For example, Consumer Reports is biased toward the "green" religion and safety features. It is influenced by Ralph Nader and it shows. Car and Driver is more of a performance biased review. MT has its heart in cars and rates trucks using standards they think are important for cars.

When I'm looking to buy a vehicle I read ALL reviews available and also read real world people's reviews like you all here. I can then make a decision on my standards. Many here weigh form over function and that's great for them. I can live with some cosmetic or high end performance flaws if the truck holds together and doesn't cost me a ton to own. To each there own including trade magazines.

I'll say Consumer Reports is the most unbiased and most scientific of any of the automotive publications. As far as a bias towards green tech and safety, it's certainly part of their matrix scoring wise, as it should be. To most people, these are very important considerations. Good thing about their scoring system is that it's consistent, and therefore allows consumers to make an informed choice on what's important to them.

Where is CR on the drive train vibration issue? This has been going on since 2005. Has that been picked up their survey, plenty of pissed people on gen 2 and 3 threads. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/poll-how-many-of-you-are-having-vibration-issues.400856/

I have no idea. You are free to ask them. I am unsure how an independent group scientifically testing vehicles is going to capture every problem with every vehicle manufactured. You do realize how CR tests vehicles and comes up with reliability histories, right? Regardless, you seem upset about the issue and somehow are drawing a conclusion that CR should have known, thusly informed you of the issue. I find that an interesting thought process. There are plenty of pissed of people out there, period. Whether it's because of some shimmy issue, or something else, in general, the vocal minority always seem a larger group then they are. I, personally, have no idea what you're speaking about. No a-shimmy'n going on in my truck. Good luck in your quest to track down the issue that apparently is affecting you.

Right on, Consumer Reports is an un biased testing magazine, if Consumer Reports says it's good, you can bank on it. The few whiners on this site should stop, they are giving the Tacoma a bad name.

Consumer reports pounded on the Tacoma this morning in their latest video on YouTube.

    Oh boy.

You're suggesting there's a better, more reliable source of information out there? Feel free to enlighten me on that. CR doesn't take money from manufacturers, applies the same criteria to each vehicle, and polls actual owners on their respective vehicles for issues. Is it somehow infallible and perfect? 'Course not. Is it a consistently reliable source to start your research and form and informed choice? Yup. However, just like any major purchase, if you rely on any ONE source of information, you're certainly not informing yourself. CR is a highly admired and respected organization that is not perfect, as is nothing in this world. You want to do your research elsewhere? Fantastic. There is something called the silent majority and vocal minority. It's just human nature. You can certainly see it in just about every policitical corner of this country. Do I suspect everyone who owns Tacomas is having no issues and lying about it? Nope. Do I think those having issues are squawking here about it? Of course. As they should. It's not representive of everyone, obviously.

Sorry you're having issues with your Tacoma. I would suggest you sell it and buy a different brand. That's the great thing about this country. Choice. Lots 'o choices.

    Good luck.

That's weird. On my iOS app, it shows the '16 as currently being tested. They were unkind to the 2015, while admiring its reliability and toughness. I would have to agree with that. Please provide the link to the video you are seeing on the CR '16 review.

    Thanks.

Yes, I'd like to see that too. I really thought these were the most reliable trucks out there.

They are. Does that mean that each and every one will run a million miles without issue? Or even a few lemons straight from the factory? No. Just the law of averages in your favor when you buy the Tacoma. Nothing more, nothing less.
