one person at a time; 25,000 is unlikely(edit - actually is very doable), and vaccination is a simple logistics problem. As for screening people that have no papers, yes that is a problem. Compare images to known criminals, terrorists is one method that may stop a small percentage. Remember Canada has gone through this before, with a statistical # becoming mobsters, gangsters, (another form of domestic terror) The reality is almost 100% of these folks simply want a life without violence, and raise their family in peace. Canada has accepted the risks before; we should not act out of fear, but of courage.

 

Just doing some hypothetical math -
25,000 people brought in via five entry points (Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, Vancouver) over a period of let's say 5 weeks.
that's 5000 people per entry point, or 1000 per week
Let's say 1000 people enter on five of the seven days in a week = 200 people per day.
(Note the 25,000 is likely composed of families - Kids + parents i.e. 25,000 people may really be 10,000 families, but I digress.)

Can Canada Customs handle this?

hmmm looking up Vancouver International Airport stats - 405,807 international arrivals in September = 100,000 per week.
I'm pretty sure our logistics infrastructure is up to the challenge there, in fact would not even notice.

The challenge, I agree is the pre-screening and the time required to do so, before they even get on an aircraft, and meeting the logistical needs when they arrive here, though it looks like folks are already stepping up to the plate.

Canada has done this before, and should is my opinionated position. The same debate we are having now - the what ifs, I would argue have occurred before in our history, and I'd be willing to hear what best practices we've learned from those experiences.

Edit: for comparison Toronto handles 1.5 Million international /month; Winnipeg varies but shows it can handle 45,000 per month.

 

PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Mexico – A Canadian couple has died while having sex in a hotel hot tub in Mexico.

The London Daily Mail reported that 67-year-old Charles McKenzie suffered a fatal heart attack in a hot tub in a hotel room.

His body then began to crush his 63-year-old wife Dorothy McKenzie, who then drowned moments later, according to reports. Her death was ruled “asphyxiation by submersion.”

The couple was vacationing in Mexico and were there for their daughter’s wedding. Their bodies were reportedly found by the daughter.

The 35-year-old daughter was planning on getting married two days later. It remains uncertain whether or not the wedding went on as planned.

What's funny to me is how often Canada has done this right at the start or into the beginning of winter. My Dad came over by ship, landing in Nova Scotia, then onto Montreal in the winter.

Yup, free country, they could return at any time; though they would have to earn the monies to do so. My understanding is that very few ever do, once they settle in here.

Too bad they still want to rush things and get them all here by March.

Honestly I have no problems with any race, creed, etc etc but there is no way to check out what these people were doing back home. People can throw around the word biometrics all they want but what good is that data if whatever they may of done illegal in Syria has no record? I'd prefer to extend the process out over all of next year to give the time for proper interviews and background checking rather than shoving 5,000 of them through the doors a month over a political promise. Figure it out. If it takes 8 hours on average to figure out someones past, assuming you can which you may not, and you have 25,000 people coming in 4 months span you need 200,000 man hours to get through those people in ~160 days. Given government hours, that's 114 days to go through those records. That's 1700 man hours a day. Which would require 220 people dedicated to doing just that instead of their normal jobs... I doubt the government is making that effort.

Oh, and if the average employee doing that fact checking costs $25/hour, that's 5 million dollars which is really just a drop in the bucket against the costs that have been thrown out for the project... which makes me wonder how many man hours it actually takes to get these people here and if the process is being rushed rather than being carried out in an orderly fashion.
