I'm tired of all these reviews showing Colorado/Canyon superior

If you take our bias out of it, it was just about dead on for me.

    Cool. We have zombie trucks!

Listen, CR is known for being harsh with their reviews. They aren't taking advertisers money and pull no punches. I agree with the sitting position, to low, ride quality, average at best, and what not. I think it's peppy enough, but certainly not an abundant power supply there.

We'll see the full review when they're done.

Again, thanks for the link. Guess my CR app is worthless.

Exactly. Just look at it objectively and take our own obvious biases out of it. Pretty close to reality, honestly.

    Objectively:
    (1) Seat position, it has *always* been this way. Like, forever. I thought it was well known....
    (2) Ride comfort, it is a small truck...on a truck frame, on a truck suspension. It doesn't weight all that much, what do people really expect here?
    (3) Power, if you want power, buy a v8 or forced induction option.

It is, what it is, the Tacoma. It has always been a weird seat position, stiff riding, down on power pick up, that lasts forever.....

    I seriously thought everyone knew....lol

    Everyone reading these forums perhaps.

Seating position is just bizarre. I'm 5'8" and I seriously feel cramped in there. I don't know how those over 6' buy this thing. Completely different feeling then even in the Canyon, so Toyota is choosing style over function here to get that desert racer look it's so keen on talking about. Ride comfort is what it is, though how my 3/4 ton Ram can have a better ride then the Tacoma is somewhat perplexing. Power? I find having to lean pretty heavily into the gas to get it motivated to any degree. I would not want to tow anywhere near what they are reporting it capable of. Like, not even a quarter of that.

Any vehicle is a series of compromises, Tacoma is no exception. Nor is it some magic truck. Just another ride with some good, and bad points. Make your decision and throw your money at what you like.

Look at it this way... compare the old GM Canyon with the new one. Night and day. Tacoma.. not so much. New engine w marginally better gas mileage. Hardly roomier. Drum brakes. But, it is what it is and people still love it.

Toyota seats have NEVER been much different. Not in pick ups. I'm relatively new to this forum. Go find an 88 pick up...its the same....HAHA I'm 6'3" in a 2001 ext cab....

your Ram was much heavier...absorbed the road much better....

Power...well...I'm guessing there will be some companies producing tuners...maybe they can fix that.

Yeah, looking at my previous post, a bit negative. So here's the things I love so far...Size, obviously the main reason folks are buying these vs full size. Much easier to live with in the real world. Quality seems high. Everything from switch gear, to fabric material is a notch higher.

I'm happy, just exploring and observing my new rig.

Not sure I'm buying into your heavier vehicle concept in relation to ride quality. I mean that thing could haul ~3k and tow ~14k. Without breaking a sweat. Serious need for a stout suspension, yet surprisingly smooth ride for what it was. As someone who had both, it's not even close. Just curious as to why the Tacoma isn't a bit smoother. Not a deal breaker for me, and more a comment on how well Ram is doing in figuring out how to deliver massive payload/towing capabilities and still a relatively nice ride.

Kudos to the engineers at Ram.

Well...if you remember the phrase "rides like a cadillac"... it wasn't because Cadillac had some futuristic tech for suspension...they weighed a lot...and had a longer wheelbase, like your Ram.

Or, could be the Ram has an entirely different, more modern rear suspension system then the Tacoma. Apparently superior.

I'm sure cost and more modern is the answer far more then weight and wheelbase. The Tacoma has a pretty generous wheelbase to deal with. Not exactly a Jeep.

More modern? How? It's leaf springs and shocks hahaha. Unless the Ram is 4 linked or IRS....It's the same setup. If you really don't think weight and wheelbase as well as beefier components has anything to do with ride quality...I think you should do some reading...

"It sounds feel and rides like the old truck it was".......that's because when you have best seller on your hands....you don't go changing EVERYTHING. Toyota knows what it is doing.

Toyota Tacoma has had many bad reviews over the years but they continue to dominate all others manufactures in a mid size truck and they still have the highest resale value of all. Its all opinion in what you like and the majority of people out there that want mid size trucks like the Tacoma the best of all. That's gotta tell ya something

Absolutely, Tacoma owns this segment. Kids all across America love the macho look, the way it cruises through the desert. It's just cool, who cares about the ride or power.

I'd suggest you do the reading. You're clearly the one lacking the knowledge on the 2014 Rams 3/4 ton suspension set up. Google it. I have had both, so pretty sure I know what I'm talking about. Have you? As I said, wheelbase is part of it, yeah. Weight? Maybe, to an even smaller degree. Drove HUMVEE's in the military. Plenty heavy and drove like shit. Trick with trucks has always been to make an empty pickup have a decent ride. Always been the issue. Load it up, of course the suspension is going settle in and be less twitchy and more floaty. Point is, WB on the Tacoma is long enough to make it ride better. And Ram has done it while simultaneously allowing for massive payload and a decent ride. Again, Ram has more WB, WT, and cost to work with. Toyota is just sticking to ancient technology and not really innovating. It's obvious to anyone that can look at it objectively. Not sure why you're so upset with this.

Michael, Believe this discussion started with the guy talking about his 1/2 ton Ram with the Turbo diesel and 8spd. My brother has a new one with a Hemi, that sucker does ride like Cadillac with either standard coils or optional air suspension.

Yeah, I would be interested to see Toyota do a similar set up. Especially since it's a light duty truck, seems it'd be even simpler. Be a sweet ride.

I have no preference for either. I'm torn between the two. Waiting to see how things go for them both for about a year or so to help make my decision.
