We used to live up in Forest Heights (mistake). We couldn't leave our driveway and watched several crashes from our front window. Subaru drivers thought their cars could make it... They didn't realize driving skill was also necessary. Oops.

Dude... do you need me to bring my welder up for the weekend? Drop off my Tacoma and haul yours to my garage on a trailer? I will. Seriously.

If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
    Cheese'n'Rice!!!

That sucks man, I was :goingcrazy: when I was without my truck, and that was only for 3.5 months!

Seriously, as @username suggested, if there's anything your TW Familia can do to get you up and running - JUST LET US KNOW! We need to throw you a party when it's back in action!

    Seriously appreciate that man!
I shouldn't be complaining really, I did have a couple big snafu's that weren't caused by me, but I have dragged my feet on this project so to speak. I'm just down to getting the exhaust replaced to drive it. Will need to complete the on board air to make the locker functional, but that can be done next month.
Once again, thanks to all that have offered help, means a lot!

I just hooked my ARB up to a Nitrogen bottle. It's nice to have to recharge shocks, plus it doesn't have any water in it so it won't freeze on snow wheelin' trips. I also hate listening to random BRRRRRRRRR of the pump running (my fj80 has ARB's too).

I had those on my work truck for a while, and they were great tires in the snow. They wore pretty fast and got louder the more they wore to the point that the drone was obnoxious on the freeway. I think they only lasted 25K miles, but that was on a 2500HD gasser with a work bed on it. (heavy pig)

What regulator and solenoid setup did you make? I like the idea of using nitrogen or CO2

I got about 50,000 out of my last set of 265s. But these are E rated so we'll see how they wear

Just a standard regulator set to 90 PSI. http://www.polyperformance.com/Poly-Performance-Nitrogen-Regulator
The solenoid that comes with the locker screws right into the regulator (where the hose normally goes). CO2 would last a hell of a lot longer (more "air" for the size of the bottle) but even nitrogen lasts me years. Maybe 200 locker cycles per bottle. I turn off the bottle when I'm not using it, but it doesn't leak down at all if I forget. I think it's better for the seals in the locker than puking water/oil mix from a compressor into them.

Don't mind the mess, I'm not very good at martha stewart shit. It gets the job done.
Poly has great deals on tanks too- http://www.polyperformance.com/Poly-Performance-Nitrogen-Tanks?quantity=1&multi955=48036&multi=1493

Thanks for the info, I like this approach better than the compressor

Has anyone purchased or know someone who has purchased land out in Christmas Valley? I'm thinking about buying 40 acres east of CV. I've been debating it for a while. Trying to decide if I want to buy a house around here or if I want to buy land and build.
Honestly, I would enjoy living 3/4 the way to BFE and starting from dirt.
I've emailed and called the Lake County planning office to try to find out the specifics on re-zoning and building time requirements. Unfortunately, no response yet.
Basically looking for tips, ideas, loopholes.

Me too. I have both, the FJ80 has an ARB compressor. When I need the lockers in the '80, it takes a minute plus to build up enough pressure to lock. The taco doesn't have that problem, it instantly locks no waiting. Most of the time I need lockers, it's in a spot that I didn't expect I'd need them, then "oh shit" you break through the crust on the snow and need lockers time now.

I have spent quite a bit of time out there (mostly on a dirtbike) and the only drawback is water. It may be 800' to punch a well in. That escalates cost quickly. There are a lot of weirdos and crazy veterans in the valley, you will fit right in. It's kind of it's own private Idaho. The kind of place it is perfectly acceptable to jam a shotgun barrel out the window and shoot crows off fenceposts, at 80mph with a beer in your lap. I really like it out there. I don't think you'll find much on building codes. I knew a dude that lived in a toyhauler full time out there without anyone saying a word to him.

I have my eye on this one. It has just enough magnification I can reach out a bit, but I can also dial it back enough to use it in the woods and really short distances. Plus it has quite a bit of eye relief, so I can mount it pretty far forward. http://www.amazon.com/LEUPOLD-1-5-4x28-Duplex-Reticle-119621/dp/B013XSD502

Yeah, I've thought about the well issue. I'm not opposed to having a water storage tank for household use and a transfer tank on my trailer. I've done that before, not hard to setup. But I still like the idea of having a well on the property, even if it means a few more months of saving.
Crazy veterans and weirdos, I can deal with. Heck, what's normal anymore. Id keep building within county regs, atleast for the most part.

Hauling water sucks, but it's not the end of the world. Some of the best offroading in the world is out there, and very few people know it exists. The dunes are a hoot, the lost forest, hole in the ground, crack in the ground, the nike cave, the ice caves... endless exploring. The bar in town is an interesting place to hang out, even if you don't drink. Probably the most eccentric group of people I've ever met in one place in that bar. I don't mean that in a bad way, genuinely interesting people that are interested in you and not staring at their phones. Like real Americans if such a thing exists.
