Im new to TW, and ive got a 2000 prerunner that I would like to put a 40 inch straight or 42 inch curved light bar over my windshield. Does anyone have any idea for the best way to mount, I prefer not to drill holes in the body if at all possible, Thanks.

There is no way to mount on top unless you drill. I drilled into the sides of the cab behind door on top. If you have the rain gutter that would be better to drill. I went through the cab though and under the headliner before I realized I coulda drilled through the rain gutter. That was with custom mounts too btw. Couple members offer mounts for a price. But require drilling. Usually with nutserts. Or you could rivet it.

Only other option would be to use some kinda magnet mounting system but haven't seen that done yet. Or a Carr brand light bar mount which attaches to the rain gutter. But that would look gay imo. I have a few pics how and where I drilled mine. Again with custom mounts though.

I've seen the carr brand, I didn't like them one bit. I'd like to see how you did it. By any chance would you know the names of the users who offer mounts?

Yep. Gotta do it! Here is how I did mine. I used eazycompany mounts with a 42" straight light bar.

Relentless fab offers mounts. Only one I can think of atm. Just search around you'll find em. Here's how I did mine. Ghetto fabbed mounts. Turned about perty good tho. Might give you an idea where to run the wire at least, if not down the windshield strip. Drilled a hole through the rain gutter for that and between the door weather stripping.

Relentless only offers mounts for curved bars.

Right:) which he said either a 40 straight or a 42 curved. Their curved mounts are for that exactly right? 42"? I think a 40" straight might be a hair too small though (in general, not for the relentless tho). Mines 42 straight and it's perfect. Just as the 42" curved from what I've seen. Anything besides hat just doesn't look right. Especially the 50's. Ha. Looks goofy I think.

Here is how my buddy's 42" curved bar looks with relentless fab mounts. Also this is how he mounted it.

Ha, and this is how I had to do mine by going through the cab. Headliner was a bitch getting out. This was before I discovered what nutserts were. And before light bar mounts became so popular for the 1st gen. And didn't know what was involved with rivets. Woulda went a different way had I known what I know now. But it still wasn't too bad. It's sturdy as fuck. I can grab on it and yank and it doesn't budge at all.

Apologies in advance as I am new to this forum... I tried a search for the right thread for this question, so hoping someone can help me out. I have an '01 Tacoma. I purchased an n-FAB led light bar roof mount from CARid based on their description to fit my truck. When the package arrived today, it states that it is for an '05-'15 Tacoma. I called n-FAB and they said the mount is specifically made for '05-'15, so I then called CARiD and the CS Rep looked up the part and stated it was for an'01 AND '05-'15! When I explained to him what I was told from n-FAB, he simply said that it can be used for mine as well. My question is, has anyone here ever mounted an n-FAB to a 1st gen tacoma? image.jpg

Probly no one has. But, it's a basic desogn, designed to mount on the rain channel. So it should work. Question is, what length bar will fit. I would suggest putting them in the channel and closing the door on it to see if it'll fit. And if they do, jam the other side in the door then measure the length. Let us know!
Those mounts look pretty nice actually. I like those types that make it hang out a little. I fabbed mine based on a similar design. By looking at the pic, I bet a 42" would fit, which is the ideal length for 1st gens.

Thanks NightProwler! It's going to be about a month before I can get this project going, but will post once done.

I love my 42in curved with the relentless fab low profile mounts.
