I'm having a similar issue, I can pop the clips out but the grab bars won't unscrew, I've almost stripped the head of one and now I'm stuck

I forget the size, but it is also a socket. I couldnt remove the screws with a screwdriver, but they came out easy with a socket set.

I pulled mine to install an Ultragauge, the bolt heads are 10mm.

Hmmm that's really strange, I'm not home to look at it but I'm fairly positive they were standard doing screw heads.. Perhaps the old owner replaced them and that's when they were over tightened

They can be removed with a screw driver as well as with a socket. I first tried a screw driver, but it was to tight, so I used a socket and easy off.

Not sure what a "standard doing screw head" is. Mine are a 10mm bolt head with a Phillips bit insert.

I have the same problem, the screws are standard size, not a bolt, or screw and bolt, just a Philip screw.
I think they are gluded in there maybe?
I can't get mine to move one cm. I need the pillar off to install a boost gauge.
    Any other ideas?

The Toyota OEM is a 10 mm hex bolt with a phillips screw insert in the middle.

If yours is different it has been replaced at some point with non-OEM item.

If you are unable to move the phillips head screw, the best thing to do is stop before you damage the head of the screw.

Get a manual impact wrench with a proper sized phillips bit and give it a few good raps with a hammer.

I bought the truck new, so the screws are original, maybe in 1997 they were using just the screw design
and later changed the design to the 10mm bolt with the screw, if I get them out I will change the them,
I will try the impact then, thanks

I never knew there was such a thing as a manual impact wrench, that's interesting!
