Post your '16 MPG

I know I said I wasn't going to post anymore mileage numbers, but whatever. lol Coming home from Wallyworld, including a couple mile dirt road detour (the latter in 4wd), I got 23.1mpg. Not bad for all city and some 4wd dirt road.

 

All the manufactures use 'real' gas to determine MPG... unfortunately most of us are forced to buy ethanol blended fuel and the result is lower than 'reported' MPG... Thanks EPA and lobbyists!

 

Maintaining around 70 on the freeways here, I get over 25mpg. And our freeways here are very hilly/not flat.

 

Yup. Only 5 fill-ups on my '16 so far but don't expect the number to improve much and it's close to both 2nd Gens I had.

 

I find the large disparity in reported numbers to be a bit suspect. My truck is on order and it won't change my mind, but I'm disappointed in some of the reporting I've seen on fuel economy from what Toyota boasted about improving upon so much.

 

That's amazing. That beats the EPA city of 18mpg by nearly 30 percent. How is it even possible you are getting 23.1mpg on city driving. Something is off or you are bad at math.

 

As for how I do it, I drive very light footed. When the truck is in 6th gear, it gets insanely good mileage. Around town, as long as I'm not hitting every light red, and I keep at 45mph (the speed limit), I usually get really great mileage. The only time I get shit mileage is on the way to work. There I'm lucky if I get 14mpg. lol

 

If people want "good" mpg from the truck they can get it. Problem is most people reporting low mpg don't care so they drive without regard.

 

No one's commute and terrain are going to be the same either. My daily work commute is about 5.2 miles. 6 turns with 4 stop lights so lots of stop and go with only about a mile of driving in 6th gear. Not exactly ideal for good mileage even though I coast to the lights or stop signs and don't jack rabbit start.

 

Sounds like my commute to work. It's like two miles, where the speed limit tops out at 35, and there are constant lights. All of which I'll hit red. There, my mileage sucks ass. haha

 

Sure, but you are going to get relatively bad mpg no matter what vehicle you are driving with that route.

 

The smaller the town you live in, the shittier your city MPG will be. I used to live in a town of 30,000. Start up my truck on 0 degree day, let it warm up. Drive 6 blocks and turn it off. I alway got horrible in town MPG but on the highway I always met or exceeded EPA highway figures.

I get that that mpg will drop at 80. But this motor and technology should do better. My return trip was 13.5. Unless I was going down hill it would run 4th gear-3500 rpm. My brother has a Eco diesel getting 26-29 mpg.
How the heck are we gonna pull 7000 lb if it works that hard to maintain 80?

Who drives 65 in an 80 mph speed zone? Really??

 

I agree Swimmer! If your worried about fuel economy buy a Prius. If you want a truck drive it like a truck. Quit complaining!!

 

I'll be driving my truck when I need a truck or on the random day when my wife and I can't drive together to work. We work 1 block from each other and we take our 1.8 civic to work and on most longer drives. I think I've put maybe 500 miles ok my Sentra since we got married almost 6 months ago.

 

When I spend 35k on a truck, I'm not gonna leave it in the garage and drive a old civic. It should not be to much to have a compromise on mileage. This is my 5th Toyota truck and it's a good one, just was hoping for a bit better mpg

 

I would too. But its still a truck. This in my 3rd Toyota my 1988 got about 20 (4 banger) my 07 got 17 (V6) and so far my 16 is 19 (V6)

 

You need to drive slower and accelerate slower. End of questioning
