Do you know that putting the weight over the wheels doesn't do anything for traction? Center if mass is center of mass. Your moment of roll is better with both bags right in the center.

You mean side to side right? At first I was thinking you meant front to back and it was making my head hurt. I was cautiously considering calling BS but I was concerned about going head-to-head with someone who teaches calculus for a living. Note: I know nothing of snow traction. I've done maybe 10 miles of snow driving in my life.

Just some news...Yesterday I reserved a '16 TRD Off Road Access Cab with a planned birthdate of 12/09/2015 (She's just a twinkle in my eye right now!). There is a shortage of access cabs up here in upstate, NY but plenty of D-cabs. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of aftermarket accessories available for '16s. WeatherTech is one example. I currently have a '12 TRD Access Cab.

I'm from upstate NY also, and have a '16 Access cab TRD Off Road on order, build date 11/24. I'm going for black. At least there will be a few access cabs driving around here haha

Yes, side to side in the bed. I thought 'moment of roll' would give that away....

Having the bags ok the sides of the bed makes the center of mass right over the middle of the axle. They work as a system because it's symmetric across the axle, assuming they are at the same point on each side. The leafs and shocks are also symmetric across the axle so they are what is putting the force to the axle, not the sand bags. The center of mass of the bags is working on the axle through the leafs and shocks, not the position of each bag.

The bad thing about having them on each side is the torque and moment of roll. I'm saying moment as the possible force of each bag and it's radius from the center of mass which is the center of the bed above the axle. If we speak of rolling and yawing, having the bags in the center of the bed, over the axle creates less moment when the truck rolls or turns. Rotation front to back will not be affected because the line that the bags create is parallel to the axis of rotation.

Tldr put the bags wherever you want. The truck wright's 4500 pounds and those sand bags aren't going to do anything...

But strapping bags down in the center is tougher with no fixed point to wedge against.

Easy solution: put all bags.. Even more bags.. On the driver's side and only make left-hand turns. Done.
