Truck dies when pit into reverse and sometimes on take off

I've been noticing that my truck, whether it's cold or has warmed up, will sometimes hesitate or even die when I go to take off, or randomly when I put it into reverse. All my fluids are good, K&N air filter is clean, hoses and wires are all hooked up properly, but still can't figure out what is going on. Its a 1996, 2.4L, 4 cyl. I had the engine rebuilt just over a year ago but there were no problems after they did the rebuild and they drove it around and ran tests on it before giving it back. My next thought was possibly, the fuel pump may be going bad. Don't remember if I have ever changed it that I can remember haha.

Don't just throw expensive parts at it, do some diagnosing.
CEL on? If so, get the code(s).
Check the TPS for proper output.
Check and/or replace plugs, wires, coil, etc.
Try cleaning the MAF sensor. If your K&N filter is the oil-type, get rid of it.

 

Check engine light is not on and OBD tester doesn't bring up anything. Not sure how to check the tps. Already has new wires, plugs, and coils. I'll try cleaning the MAF. Thanks

Check your MAF sensor and clean it along with replacing your air filter is where I'd start. I stay away from K&N personally, they let in too much dirt and dust other filters trap. K&N makes some of the best performance filters you can buy, but for everyday street driving go with something else.

 

So since my last post my truck finally just shut off one day when I was parking. I had it towed to a mechanic and he found that the problem was a bad ignition coil and igniter. After he replaced those I got the truck back and noticed that it started hesitating differently. Only while under acceleration after it has warned up it will pause and lose power for a second then come back.
We have gone over everything.

Things done...........here we go:

Replaced:
spark plugs/wires, distributor, modules inside distributor, TPS sensor, Ignitor again.
Also cleaned the MAF sensor.

The mechanic even went as far as to check out the timing and everything checks out.
Theres a couple other things I think he looked at also but still can't figure out what is wrong. Also there are no codes being thrown which makes it even more annoying.

 

Compression still good in all cylinders?
Injectors tested?
