No more door courtesy light

So no fuses are broken, no burnt out bulbs...but, no door courtesy light? smelt a burnt smell after what i presume a short circuit, when a black wire coming from the a-pillar (the door courtesy light switch) might have come into contact with a positive?...anyway, the only thing that doesn't work is the door courtesy light switch, the regular dome light works but the "door" option doesn't work anymore when the door is open can anyone help?! thanks!!

 

Does the door courtesy light function fail to work for both the driver and passenger side doors?

If not, the problem is probably in the driver side courtesy switch or the green / white wire from it to the Body ECU.

If so, I'm guessing the black wire you refer to is the lead from the door position terminal on the dome light back to pin #12 on the Body ECU.

If it was a bad enough short circuit, I'm wondering if there's a chance you burnt something in the Body ECU.

 

i have this same issue but i know i didnt short circuit anything.

my issue was fixed. on of the buttons on the doors was loose.

If the dome light is working but the personal lights are not, then it appears that you have burned out the black wire that runs between splice "B" and the personal lights. Trace back that burned black wire and you should find where it melted.

 

i continued to mess around with mine, i ended up accidently touching the posi and ground wires together for the courtesy lights and now the courtesy lights dont work. i found out the posi is fine, but ground is shot. i didnt find a burnt spot in the ground wire. i checked all the way from the dome switch to the fuse box under the steering wheel(not really sure the exact name?).

i gave up. i'm assuming im going to have to but a new fuse box.

 

It looks to me like the fuse box is part of the body ECU. It might be expensive to replace. You could try splicing in a new ground wire just to get it to work.

 

well, its actually negatively switched. it changes ground to turn the lights on and off. so that wouldnt work. i'lll do more research later when i have more time. i might just make my own module for it if the block is expensive.

 

So you are saying the B-W wire from the dome light to the Body ECU is good. It does sound like you burned out the interior lighting part of your Body ECU.

 

So for mine the courtesy light doesn't work for any doors but the light works when I turn it to the on position so I don't know what to do with that I had trouble tracing the wire but it seems like something did get burned cuz I smelt something burning when those wires did touch they may have touched ( the negative and positive) so I don't know if I did burn out that part of the body ecu...if that did happen what can I do to fix it?

 

i could be wrong, but i think the only fix is to either trace the wire and find a burnt spot, or purchase a new bcm?

 

I would use an ohm meter to ensure that all of the wires in question have continuity. If they do and the fuses are all good, then you need to suspect the body ECU.
