    With all the complaints of the transmission, I am SUPER excited to get my Manual trans truck.

    It's been two weeks since they did a dealer trade, and I still haven't heard a word... I've called the manager and he never returned my calls, and my salesman never leaves a message and I work 14 hour shift work in a hospital so it's hard to answer my phone... Maybe someday this year I'll get the truck, seeings as they already took my trade in -_-

    My first Tacoma. The 4.0 engine must have been a beast because I have zero issues with power in my 2016...I just down shift a gear and off she goes..its a truck...when I want speed/torque I take the 13Z06 out...

    You're going to love it. I picked mine up on Thursday from a dealership near my house and already put over 100 miles on it in a day driving mostly back roads. The manual trans is awesome!

    If that's the case, I'm glad I got a 3rd gen. I love turbos for their efficiency and power but good luck getting much more than 100k miles before needing new turbos. Due to the extremely high heat turbos run, they don't have the longest lifespan

    Im not sold. I like it but not sold. Plus my 07 has been paid for, for years. Also being this engine is direct injected can cause more maintenance.

    Colorado has 369 lb-ft of torque of course it feels faster.

    Tacoma only has 256 lb-ft.

    I agree with this.. I was not impressed with the engine at first and was longing for my 2nd gen, but then i said F it.. let the bitch wind up and bam, power and speed. I have a manual and i can make this baby go ... it is fun. Just gotta learn where all the power is.

    It seems new engines like to rev now days... Gone are the low end torque monsters we all grew up driving lol. (yes, I'm only 23, however I grew up on Broncos and the like)

    How high are these new engines revving to comfortably?

    It's because everyone these days seem so concerned about fuel economy. By putting the power at higher end, regular daily driving gets good MPGs. Plus manufacturers probably have their balls in a vice by the EPA. They need to put out good numbers.

    This. And I actually kinda like it. Nutless for city/town driving where power isn't needed, and more power available upon request if you step on it.

    I can putter around town, to and from work on surface streets while drinking a tofu & kale shake, smelling like patchouli, and saving the environment*.

    But when I need to, I can try to put my foot through the firewall and shift at redline for quite respectable power. It's still a truck, it's not going to win any races or anything... But it's not going to be struggling to merge on the highway after flooring it all the way down the onramp, either.

    they should have done a 4.0L atkinson cycle v6 ! im sure that would have made 300hp and everyone would have been happy

    I had a 3.4 supercharged on my 99. Unfortunately my 99 was so far down the rabbit hole of solid axle swapped 37in tall tires and so on that once the charger went on. It would be hard to compare the two. But I'd say they were comparable. The 3.4 s/c got up and moved as long as you pushed hard enough on the pedal. But I would have taken a 4.0 over it, just because of the torq. I had a 4.0 FJ with a s/c as well. That was a great engine, it had decent torq and tons of HP. Fully built and loaded driving down the road it never left you wanting more. It was just enough. I also had the 4.7 in my 4runner. I'd take that over the s/c 4.0. While the 4.7 wasn't as fast as tthe s/c 4.0 it had more torq and made you feel confident driving up mountain roads. It rarely struggled. If I had one complaint about that truck it would be the trans, while I believe it was the same that was inthe 4.0 FJC it shifted way later and more of a granny shift. IT wouldn't down shift to save it's own life while playing in the sand. I'd have to manually do it and sometimes it would kick you out of manual. The FJC was more scrappy for lack of a better term.:) Now the 5.7 s/c is a fire breathing dragon, I want that power plant in all my toyotas!

    I have nothing to back it up but since 2005 I've driven several before and after. I always assumed toyota put some sort of computer release on the break in? Could be completely made up in my head but i've felt it on more than one.

    Now that would have been nice. I was really hoping they'd kick down the 4.6 v8 but I knew after the 2010 4.0 hit which direction they'd go. I was really hoping I was wrong.
