Just curious if anyone has checked to see if the boxes for the 2nd gen tacos will fit in the 3rd gens. Specifically the boxes for the double cabs behind the rear seats.

Looks like they will but wanted to check before I ordered.

    Thanks,
    Chris

Which box are you referring to? If it is the JL stealbox, then NO! my audio installer called JL and they said that the 2012+ boxes do NOT fit in the 2016oublecabs. Its a real bummer because I heard that these boxes are great quality.

Apparently the space behind the back passenger seats are different, or else idk why JL would say that their box doesn't fit in the 2016. You might want to measure before buying.

Did JL say anything about making a stealthbox for the 3rd gens? I'm assuming they will...

they said they don't have one currently made. I have no idea when they would come out with one. I will most likely have an audio deal make a custom box. I bet it wont be for a while, until more of the population has 2016 tacomas.

Well... it's not exactly ground breaking stuff... it's just a wooden box with a certain volume that will fit back there. If not JL, someone will be selling them soon, or like you said most audio shops should be able to make one.

2016 double cabs now have 9x3" vents on both sides of the back cab wall that also protrude out about 2". It's a huge bummer but you can work around it with custom boxes.

Yep the vents are a pain in the ass. I ended up building a box that would get around them. None of the box builders have a pre-fab option yet and the second generations won't fit. Mine is not done yet, but it's installed and fits up. Here's a couple of picks.

Thanks. No I just removed them. They reshaped them because of the vents making it hard to build a box to fit in them. The curve in on the bottom and sweep out at the top. There also like $700 to buy new ones. I wanted to make a build that didn't cut anything so I could put it back if I needed too. I did cut out the child safety hooks. My car seat days are long behind me. Other than that the box fit right in. It bolts to the back rail.

That would be pretty tight. The subs I am running are Sundown SD-2 8's. They are 4.75" mounting depth and I use every inch of it. They rest about 1/4" away from the back. Because I had to stay under the vents it limited me on how much mounting surface space I had. You might be able to get them to fit, but tight for sure.

The 12-15 stealth box from JL will fit behind the passenger side rear seat if you remove the plastic liner. The liner isnt as deep because of the new vents in the 16.

I dont think I can justify $700 on just a sub and box, but nice to know it fits.

What is $700 to replace, the storage units between the rear seats and the back wall?

Does anyone have a pic with the rear storage removed showing the vents? Can they be
covered at all - maybe cover just one?

Yeah the two plastic bins between the rear seat and the back wall. I went to Toyota just to see what they would run before I cut them and when they quoted me $700 I changed my plan. I will look and see if I have my photos of that area. I started a build thread for mine and plan on adding some more photos. You can actually see the vents there. As far as covering them I found out that you cant really. For the fan to work when pulling outside air the vent needs to be there or the fan just spins and gets hot. They really put these things in the absolute worst place for upgrading the audio.
