Received our first snow yesterday :woot:
The truck is markedly better on the streets running in 4hi. I shoveled about 300lbs (a mother in law's worth) of snow into the bed for traction. I can see how you guys hate the stock Dunlops.

put something else in your bed other than snow for weight. can cause problems, rusty bolts, turn into a big chunk of ice start to slide around, slam on the brakes. we have a composit bed,it dosen't like hard sharp things.

Yes they are the stock Dunlops. They did alright but it was a heavy wet snow. I have yet to see how they are in loose snow, time will tell!!

I also had my truck treated with rust protection and finish coating plus a negative ion rust inhibitor put on as my 2007 was so badly rusting and they dump salt freely here in Winter..Michigan and here sounds the same when it comes to winter.we are cold here and shovel every day.Only thing good is no mosquitoes lolol.Due to these horrible winters and my hatred for it I deserve 4x4.Have to enjoy life some how.

I put 2 60 pound sand bags in mine, along with the 60 pounds or so of crap in my toolbox. From the thread on whether or not to put sand bags in a 4x4 it was about a 50 50 mix of people who say do and don't. I don't think I would have trouble getting around without them but I figure why not put the little extra weight over the rear tires. If you do, put them over or in front of the tires, never behind.

Edit: Finally got snow today, glad I put some weight in the back. I have no doubt it would run just fine in 4wd but the extra weight allowed me to run in 2wd in the situations where you just barely need 4wd going down the road. I don't know how anyone gets around in a small 2wd pickup. Even with the weight 2wd just didn't cut it pulling out on inclines.

I Mis-spoke earlier, my truck has the Bridgestone Dueler H/T tires. They are ok but I am saving for new tires, hopefully early next year.
I was mistaken, they are the Bridgestone Dueler H/T's. They have been ok but I am saving for new tires. Hopefully before summer!

I used to run my truck in the winter with weight in the back. That was until I came up on a wreck where things he had in the bed of the truck, read junk, came through the back window. Needless to say he was deceased. Ever since then I like to keep my bed empty unless I am hauling something. One of the reasons I have 4WD for the winter!

OME 885, dakar leaf pack. 265/75r16 duratracs "c". Back up camera. Scan gauge. Husky floor liners. Cal trend canvas seat covers. Topper and tacoma bed mat. Tailgate skin and cap. Differential breather mod. Intermittent wiper switch. Redline hood struts.
Damn... Always been worried about shit coming through the back window myself. If you are going to run with extra weight be sure to secure that shit!

That is an excellent point. That is a real threat. I keep my sandbags in the gap under my toolbox right up against the cab. That is something to seriously think about when you carry stuff around in your bed though.

I was just wondering what the technical purpose of a headache rack is actually, that is a good reason for one right there.

Yeah we liked the blue the best. It was great when we went to buy it, my wife insisted that we get what I wanted as long as it was blue! Since I liked the blue the best as well.........I have a wonderful wife!!!

headache racks protect the cab and allow you to run long lumber or what have you on top.
