Noob Question: Shift points for 08 Taco

I've been driving Hondas ever since I started driving and now that I finally have a truck the driving experience is completely different. This is a noob question so please don't flame me, but I'm wondering what the best shift points (when to shift gears) are on my truck. Since I'm used to cars this is something I need to get good at. Does anybody know what the best shift points are ? Thank you much.

 

Check your owners manual. If you don't have one, I'll be happy to look it up.

 

2500 for mine...

 

I try to shift at 2000 rpm. I'll go higher if I need more acceleration, like for a short/metered on-ramp. The manual recommends shifting into 6th by 41mph for best gas mileage.

 

depends on what you wanna do, you wanna do some performance driving? Then shift right before you redline, that way the next gear will still fall within your power band. Or you wanna just putz around town? in that case shift before 2500. My advice would be to not shift unless the rev limiter kicks in.

 

Really, 41? Somehting must have changed in the manual. In the 05' manual says
6th @ 50mph
5th @ 45 mph
4th @ 40 mph

I always thought those were pretty high.

Mind posting the recommended shift speeds in your 'newer' owner's manual?
