I bought four this week, in stock, at the tire store, no waiting...The mechanic there says that it is a very popular tire.

Phew!! I've now read all 18 pages of postings! I love Michelins....I know they don't get much love here on the forum but they are such great tires. I would LOVE to replace my stock Deuler H/T's with either the MS2 or the AT2's. I saw that some folks (and I've PM'd about three folks today with questions) regarding their various tire choices. While 90+% of the driving is on the highway for which I know the MS2 would be great I really want to hear from the folks who've gone off roading. I'm not planning on sticking to the groomed dirt trails but would like to get onto some rocky desert areas, etc. I have Marie Antionette syndrome.....I want my cake and eat it too, I want the best tire that can do everything!!

Most folks seem to be running the MS2's can anyone comment on the capability of them off road, not not groomed trails but out in the desert or forrest etc? AT2 as well, I'll take any and all information possible!

AT2s very happy everywhere I've taken them. Aired down to 18 psi, but I would taking it very easy because the sidewalls are not highly rated on the P (2 ply, IIRC).

If I get AT2s again, which I am strongly considering for the 2015, they will be E rated.

Quite deep sand, miles of it, with some tricky very deep and rutted areas along the way.

Did great in muddy snow (not heavy) in the Sierra Nevada, too, but don't have pics handy.

THANK YOU!!! Those are great pictures just what I'm looking for!!! So you took P rated on all of that...gently of course. Have you ridden in a Tacoma with the E rated tire yet? A number of pages back a poster mentioned getting the E rated MS2's by accident thru the tire dealers fault and how bad they were for ride quality as compared to the P rated. Have you had any issues with the P rated such as cuts/blowouts/slicing of of the sidewalk with the off roading that you do. I see myself doing about the same as you are now. Have you found any terrain that the AT2's couldn't handle?

    1. No.

    2. You need to check out @teamhypoxia's build. He runs the E rated tires on all kinds of crazy stuff, also daily drives them, loves them to death.

    3. I have had zero probs, but I do not offroad heavily. I have avoided any lines with lots of sharp rocks or that would cause severe deformation.

    4. "Any terrain" is a bit...out there. I don't push it hard. Mine is DD first and foremost. About medium difficulty trials, and easier lines. Again, check out @teamhypoxia's build for seeing someone pushing it on these tires.

Thank you! The stuff you go thru is as heavy as I would myself do. Like you mine is also a DD primarily. Comfort is key, just don't want to be limited by my tires or have to get some big ole blocky tires. I checked out his build, he was actually one of the folks that I PM'd and has since answered me back which was great. I was super impressed with what he was taking them on. Amazing!!! It gave me warm fuzzies seeing the intense terrain he goes on with them. This is really solidifying my choice for a set of Michelins, I'm going to go the AT2 route for now pending some other PM's and or answers from folks who run the MS2's out in the ruff stuff.

Sure no prob. I mainly do forestry roads and other trails, like many, that are generally easy, but have a few spots that are hard, or a tougher stream crossing, etc., that is really what you need 4x4 or low range and good traction for. The AT2s were also great on onlg stretches of washboard and the like at speeds ~40 and aired down to 18.

Thats great!!! All of this is great!! I was just showing some family members your photos with your truck and hypoxic's truck. Its all great. I'm really really happy I found this thread, read the whole damn thing and then talked to you guys. I'm sure this is answered elsewhere in another thread just another one of the 400 questions I have while learning. But why do you air down the tires on roads like that?? I get it for when you're trying to wheel over big rocks, it increases grip and flexibility of the tire, etc but why on more "flat or even wash board " type roads?

    This ^^^

That road where the MAN is oncoming was very uncomfortable at 32-ish psi (and kept me at 20ish MPH),which is what I had for a heavy bed load and towing from CA to UT. At 18 it was better than paved highway, and I was cruising 45ish and actually having to watch my top end speed for driving in 4H.

Ha....this is a good thing.....Evidently I need "Off Road" school.

Ohh wow, see thats neat, there's just so much I need to learn, I seriously would enroll in a weekend Off Road school course if there was one. Teach you how to use Hi Lift's and winch's and about airing down your tires etc. I'm going to have to bribe a few of the AZ boys I think to do some teaching. I hear they accept beer as payment.

Great hearing about the AT2's you guys really have me wanting to get a set of these. Do you use P or E rated @MushMouse?

The sidewall ratings are limited to certain tire sizes. Some sizes are only offered in P with 2 plies, and LT tires are offered only in E sidewall ratings. I wihs they had C to strike a happy medium. Go check the Michelin site for specs.

Oh Yeah I know I've been looking at them, the tires I've been checking out come in both P and E for the size, I was just curious what Mush Mouse used.

I put the LTX MS/2 on about a month ago, and they are so nice on every surface I have tried them on, icy roads, loose gravel, interstate highway...much better performance than half worn Cooper AT3...but new tires always outperform worn ones anyhow. I have to wonder how these will howl in 40k miles.

I use P metric 265/70/16 cause its my daily driver and I want comfort and handling, E rated is way over kill unless you run the Baja 500 or its a haul truck. definetly get the AT2 if you want a little more AT Offroad look it wont sacrifice the handling and comfort of these tires:thumbsup: get MICHELIN LTX tires is the best tire advice you can ever get

It's funny you mention cooper AT3's those were the other tires I was looking at putting on my truck. Have you taken the MS2's into more serious off road environments like Socar's pics up above?
