    Hey guys,

I just wanted some clarification on the diff lock on the OR. Is it an actual locker or is the auto LSD like on the 2010 Base?

All models come with the weak form of braking limited slip differential. THis is TRAC

Off Road comes with a real locking differential. The front lsd is ATRAC, an electrically boosted braking system

Hopefully, there will be a wiring mod where you can run the locker in 2hi, 4hi, and 4lo

Yeah I was hoping that could be done without still having the ABS VSC and TRAC active. It would be fun to play in the snow with.

4-Lo is good for up to about 45mph. No need to be locked going faster than that.

So is the 'auto LSD' found in the TRD sport and some other models an electronic ABS based LSD, or an actual mechanical limited slip? Toyota isn't very clear on that.

I have a dumb question, what is the point of being locked in 2WD or 4WD hi? Seems more like a novelty feature than a functionality upgrade??? But, then again I ve never had a select-able locker before. Just lock rights in my jeeps and samurai, which I always wheeled in low range anyway, learn me something guys.

different types of wheeling I guess

If you're doing off road racing I guess you'd want to be able to have it in 4hi or 2hi.
But if you just want it so that when you are off touring in trails and get bogged you can switch the locker on and crawl out.

pretty much main reason I'd prefer an air locker over the factory locker.

don't have that option here lol.
No TRD OR DC. so need to go with the TRD sport and put in air lockers lol Unless for 2017 they bring the OR DC to canada. Either way I'm not buying the first year of a new model

    yep.
After they first came out here I was about to buy one that the dealer had on lot that was supposed to be sold but the buyer backed out. I said I'd think about it, went home, went back next day and it was sold, then all the problems started showing up on forums and I was happy I didn't buy it haha. Just going to wait until next year and buy it. Might even be able to save up enough to buy it full out no finance.

ARB Air Lockers Front/Rear on the Tacoma still superior over the TRD OR Offerings? Someone mentioned on the forum that they aren't if you don't know how to use them...something about blowing the front end up because the weight up there...

a few of us have said that. Toyota doesn't offer a front locker because they could end up warranty-ing it if it flips on and destroys the front gears

@Z50king Is there a thread where this talked about more thoroughly on why, when to use a front locker, Rear locker, both lockers vs. TRD OR ATRAC/E-Locker etc. I like to have a very in depth explanation instead of a vague answer, no offense. I know David K. mentioned the "9" Modes that the TRD OR has from the factory, but never did a comparison over Front/Rear ARB Air Lockers.

well if you're not smart and turn them on while trying to turn or going down a hill you are pretty likely to destroy the front end.
