Have you seen any effects on the garage door unit itself with the signal wave coming in continuously for such a long period of time? Or does the receiver just wait till the signal has stopped to respond to it?

Wouldn't the receiver be in a stalemate into the signal stoped after that 5 to 7 seconds rendering you still waiting for the garage door to go up? And yes this is a serious question. I'm not poking fun

I drove up my driveway holding the remote button down and it triggered when it got into range, then seemed to ignore the fact that the signal continued to come in, so it seems that the receiver just waits for the signal to stop (looking for discrete signals instead of continuous). Not sure if this is specific to my opener or standard but works for me. However you're correct that if the signal triggers the door and then stops, and then starts again it would stop the door mid-open (and then the lights on the door opener flash in error and whatnot). So the key is to have one continuous output and then stop completely. Only downside I see is that holding the door opener button down means it's literally sending the signal for the 5+ seconds instead of the 1/2s it normally (I assume) would when I hit the current remote button. Which means it's draining the little remote battery a bit more since it's on longer.

I assume the door opener sends out an ack signal when the door finishes traveling b/c I think the Tacoma's home link mirror let you know when the door is open/shut, right? Not sure how else the mirror would know unless it gets a notification from the unit in the garage? But regardless, that's way more complicated, I'd rather just change the remote battery, or hook it up to the truck's battery which wouldn't even notice the minimal current draw... TacoBella's got me paranoid about tapping into the truck's electrical system though, maybe I should try this out on a friend's tacoma first ;) I'm planning on doing an LED mod which is where I'm getting the 9V supply in my diagram, in for a dime in for a dollar I suppose...

remote just arrived, however I see NO learn button/light on the motor unit.

edit: All I can find is a small set of dip switches, that tells me this is how
it's programmed which means the layout is the same in the oem opener I
have so I think this won't work for me. :(

Sounds like you're going to have to do a little more homework on your style remote and your garage opener because you are correct, the little mini remote does not have any dip switches in it as you already know

I ordered the same unit but it is a different frequency than my Lift Master. Only works with Green button..

My LM uses a purple button.

Make sure you know what color your Learn button is before ordering and get the correct frequency

    GREEN 390MHZ 1993-1995 YELLOW 390MHZ 1996-2005 PURPLE 315MHZ 2006-2014

    YELLOW round 310MHZ 315MHZ 390MHZ 2011+

Bought a plug and go with blue backlighting homelink, auto dimming and white compass, if you want the redundancy to the navigation. $155 delivered, looks great!

    I got it from http://www.bobsmirrors.com

Technically it was used, but it was just as good as the one I took out of my new truck yesterday. Same brand Gentex. Hopefully you can blow up pic to get model number. If it is 12 PIN it will work, but many options like green, blue or white on the compass. Also some models have back light like this one and some don't. Probably different color options on that also. Might be luck of the draw what he has available, he is also on eBay. Good luck!

I agree. Started using this on my t-top Z cars and convertibles years ago to foil door opener heists. Plus it's just cool.

    Look familiar? :D

Trial run of my little circuit was a success. Designed it to 'hold' the remote door button closed for about 8 seconds. Decided to add a regulated 3V out too so I can power the garage door opener remote (eg no more battery in the remote so no worries about draining it over time). Probably going to ditch the board and create a new one wrapping the garage door opener with other features (want to incorporate an Arduino or rpi into the truck at some point) but so far so good!

So I'm doing this mod. Does anyone know which leads I need to connect to? I just flipped the board over for your reference if you can help. Thank you. 20160310_063945.jpg 20160310_064000.jpg

I would recommend testing before you solder. Just stick the leads on and try until you find the right two. Probably diagonal from each other.

I ordered the parts on Amazon last night. This is a great mod. Now I just need to decide where I want the button!
