You obviously got tricked by discount tire. They swore they were 285's and they won't take them back because you already put miles on them. You are just making the best out of a bad situation.

Are thes one offs, or production pieces? This is something I have been pondering lately as well.

Those are fabbed by dirt designs and is what is on Joel's truck:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/joels-4wd-lt-build.248722/

I have emailed Dirt Designs to see if they can just send/sell me that top hat piece and i'll just work out getting a cross over tube bent since my truck is probably just enough different from his that it wouldn't bolt right up... I'll let you know what I hear back from DD. Be really cool if they could make a small run of them!

Cool, the cross brace and bushing would be easy, getting just the top hat piece would be sweet. Let me know, especially if they would want to do a run of them and make more than just one. Group buy?

Roger that. I was wondering about the holes, then read through his build and saw they are for the secondary mount, perfect!

Haha, not right now anyway, but that would make adding them down the road a lot easier, I need a bender LOL.

You had some cracks in your LCA frame mounts didn't you? Pulled my front end apart this weekend and noticed one of mine is cracked pretty bad.

Yea a bender would be saweeet! Luckily I know a guy near me @Blackdawg if he's ever home and willing to bend stuff for me after hes bent everything for his rig haha. Yea that hole in the top hat mount would make it super easy!

yes, mine had a few small cracks on the inside tabs near the top, i had them re-welded when the guy welded my cam tabs on. I have looked at my lca mounts recently but didnt see anything alarming. I'll have to have a closer look one of these days to make sure all is well.

Are you going to stay with 285's for the forseeable future? I'm trying to decide if going 35's is worth it for me. Be valuable to get your opinion :) I'm lost at the moment on what to do.

I just went back and saw your discussion on them and the trac gussets, that really is the way to go with heimed uppers. Just bought some TC gussets and was thinking of setting it up similar to how you did your lower mounts, but if going that route, maybe going all in would be better? Having the option of the cams is nice to retain though.

I'm running 295 Hankooks, which are like a 33.6. I think it is a great size, stock gears, not too much more work to clear than 285s. I'll probably run this set through next year, then get another set while saving up for gears and a front locker, then do 35s.

Gotcha, 295's were on my list too. But I was at the point where if im going to trim and regear for 295 might as well go for 315's...

Yeah, if you are regearing at the same timeline, I would say go for 35s.

Truck looks awesome with the cap on. If y'all do a GB for that brace I'm in for a set.

Thanks :) i'll update here as this week moves on and i know more.

So gears and tires are the main things. Gotta get a full size 35 spare too, need somewhere to put it... have to add a swingout too then. that will change my weight distribution big time, gonna lead to a revalve of rear shocks... Then all the cutting, I want to retain some kind of mudflap so that will be fun. My rear bumper holds my rear flaps and if i cut that back the 2" then i'll loose my mounting tab for the flaps.

    I need a welder :pout:

Haha, yeah it is a slippery slope, one thing leads to 15 others. I also believe that everyone who gets into modding enough, will eventually get a welder out of necessity. But then that leads to a bender, a plasma, a notcher . . . it never ends.

You're totally right. I only wish I had a big enough garage... Really it's what is holding me back. It was the one thing I knew I'd kick myself for when we got our place.

Woo, snow donuts! Exhaust is crackly because it's cold, motor wasnt cold but the pipe was. It doesnt do that after it's all warmed up.
