SOS Concepts Sliders - 3rd Gen

I volunteered my truck to be the lab rat for SOS to create sliders for the 3rd Gen Taco's. I wanted to post some pics and give a quick review of my perspective on the sliders. So here goes...

SOS Concepts -
SOS is a tiny shop in Goose Creek, SC that is run by Eddy (@EddyRRT). He has an employee, Phoenix (@Boogyman), who helps him run the shop. That's pretty much it. They seemed super chill and made sure I was getting what I wanted when they were working on the truck. I liked how personal it was. I didn't walk into a shop and hand over my keys to some stranger... I was able to watch the process and ask questions about how things were going down.

Hardware -
2x Sliders
2x Bolt-on Plates
14x Bolts/Nuts/Washers

I got them as bare steel, but ended up painting them.

Mounting -
Each slider is attached by 7 bolts provided by SOS. In addition, there are 3 bolts that were already in the frame that we used to put through the plates. So each slider has a ton of bolt points that ensure that the slider has NO CHANCE of moving. There is even a bolt on the underside of the cross bar. It's secure!

Mounting was fairly easy. I recommend this being a 2 man job. You'll make life easier with a set of jack stands as well.

Fit -
The sliders are 78" long. They are canted at roughly 15°. They extend approx. 3" off the body. This makes it a perfect fit. It also works out great if you want to use these as steps. They come out enough that you can use them, but not so far that you HAVE to use them when getting in and out. This was important to me. The fit was what I was mostly worried about, and I'm stoked with the outcome. It gave the truck that perfect image I wanted.

The Kick-Out -
As you can see... I got the kickout. In my opinion, there should be no other option. Again, it adds function and looks really cool. What I thought made this kickout different is that it's subtle. Just enough to do the job, but not so much that it sticks out. Get the kick-out!

Functionality -
As I said above, functionality rocks! I can use them as sliders, steps, and a jack point while it gives the truck a badass appearance. I already tried jacking it up... had no problem. I also had 4 adults stand on the side at the same time and bounce... no issues.

Paint/Liner -
I hit these with 2 coats of black primer. I then threw on 2 coats of Rustoleum Bedliner. I plan on adding 1-2 more coats of the bedliner and finish it off with a coat of black semi-gloss to seal it in. The bedliner is a must. It gives it the rough texture needed to have traction when using it as a step.

Overall -
These things are amazing! It makes no sense to get nerf bars or running boards when you can get these at the same price. They give more function to the truck and they make it look badass. Period. I believe (don't quote me on this) that Eddy plans to offer these for $500. He also only charges $80 for shipping. Compared to the other sliders that I've looked at buying... these are price competitive! And honestly... I like the design of these much more. Also, His lead time is only 10 weeks right now.

Maybe I suck at reading, but I wasn't clear on if these require drilling the frame. Can you let me know? They look great and the price seems fair.

Looking good! Did you road trip it from Navarre? I used to surf there back in the day. Love my bolt on sliders too.

 

Yup! My wife's best friend was having a birthday party for her daughter. I was gonna hang at the crib and watch the pups... saw this and I said, fuck it... why not. A ton of driving this weekend, but well worth a set of sliders and not having to wait to get them on the truck.

 

That's awesome! Yeah Eddy is a good guy and has a nice family, I have made the trip up there several time to have him do some work on my truck.

And Navarre rocks! Best beaches with little tourism. If only we could get rid of Hwy98... That thing is a monster! Or make it WAY bigger.

 

Ever made it over to Mexico Beach? Look it up if you haven't heard of it. That is where I grew up, heading that way after work Tuesday for the holidays. Beaches back home have sugar white powder sand, so much better than this crap over here in Jax.

Thanks man. They definitely do the trick. I'm glad I found these before I bought nerf bars or running boards. In hindsight, that would have been a bad move.

I really think people will start doing sliders over anything else as they learn the benefits/functionality/general badassery. I look forward to seeing them hit the streets...

 

Yeah.... Might as well go this way then worthless nerf bars, and they will be cheaper to. Will just use some Rustoleom bed liner spray to give some grip.

Wonder if they would do a top plate to make the footing a little better... Have a 4 year old that has to do everything "herself" including climbing in and out of cars.

 

More material/welding/work will mean more $$$... But I'm sure they'd consider it. Just ask. It's definitely not a bad idea.

 

Do you know what type of bender is being used for the tubing? The tubes look ovalized quite a bit at the bends in those photos. Otherwise, looks like your typical slider.

Must be the tighter radius making the tubes look more flat at the bends then im used to. Is the tubing 1 3/4"? Ive got a 5.5 radius on my JD2 bender for 1 3/4". That could be the difference im seeing.

P.s. I did some measuring and inspecting of the hood scoop today. I'm stoked to see that 10" Rigid in the hood once you get a bracket made.
