So, I have an 08 Tacoma DC SB lifted with 128k on it, which has been paid off for a while now. I'm liking the new 4runners and tacomas. But part of me wants to take 5k, fix all the little things with the truck, TOB, clutch could use to be replaced, some minor body damage a replace the suspension with ICON and just drive it into the ground.

What say you all? Keep it or deep six it?

I would say keep it. Its easier to save and fix then to HAVE to have that payment every month.

Do you like the truck? That is really the majority of it. Financially I would keep it and do want you want to it, you got lots of life still in this truck. If you are tired of it, than move on.

Just look at the build thread
Get a 4Runner. Then dump the $5k into that.

I sold my '08 DCSB Sport with 105K on the clock for 23K (pretty modded). Bought a 2012 AC TRD OR with 12K on it for 24.5K. I say do it, it can be some work finding the right replacement truck for the right price but it is doable. I searched all over the country on craigslist looking for a gem and found one 7hrs away.

I do love it. The idea of having no car payment is nice, because with no car payment, the cost of gas doesn't affect me much...

That's the other thing, Blue book on this truck is still 14k. That's a nice down payment.

Absolutely, the thrill of the chase was the best part. :D

Throw it on CL for a little higher than blue book and you'll be surprised with the offers that you'll get. Folks not on the forum are willing to pay a little more for a truck that's already "done" in their eyes. Not saying to be unrealistic with the price but if KBB is 14K and you have full OME/wheels/tires you can list for 19K (to account for lowballers) and expect to get 16-16.5K.

I'm in the same boat as you, 2008 DCLB Sport with 110k in great shape. Could for a decent amount to put on another truck, but I really like not having a payment. I have been going back and fourth for months.

Not knowing a lot of the important factors to this decision which are personal, I would say keep it. You have already ridden out the fastest depreciation years. The title is the best feature that you can get on a vehicle. You could lose 9k in value driving it 7 more years, or 20k over the next 7 years with a new vehicle. If you really want to run it into the ground you can run just liability insurance on it too once it isn't worth much which is big savings.

While keeping it is the more financially savvy decision, there is a certain point in life where spending money on stuff is worth it. If your financial life is in good order, screw it buy something new, you only live so long and you can't take your money to the grave with you.

If you do decide to keep and run it into the ground I wouldn't worry about the minor body damage. The truck still has at least half its life left, it is sure do get more dings and scratches and it won't affect the value when you are done with it anyway.

Ill tell you what. I wish I did the suspension right the first time. The OME just sucks on the road. Should have done ICON from the start.

This whole paragraph just hits it on the head. I say sell and keep. If you like the truck except for the few "minor" things that you would change then keep it. If you are going to sell it at least wait till April when the prices have come down and the dealers want to make a real deal. Or wait till 2017 and let the 2016 shake out a little....maybe they will remove the bottom lip that everyone freaks out about.

I usually view my truck as broken in at 100k miles. I'll start to think about it at 125k mill start looking at 150k and then in the 170's I'll be more serious about it. I had my old truck a 2001 until 2014 when I bought my current truck new. Not having a payment is super super nice. I can't freaking wait. I'll not ever finance again and just start saving now so I can buy it outright next time.

    True on paragraph one.

    Also true on paragraph two.

The damage is to the right front 1\4 panel and makes an annoying wind noise over 70 something awful.

You bought the original truck for 2 reasons. Longevity or resale. Which ever reason is closer to your way of thinking is the way you need to go.
