'15 SR5 DCSB Wind Noise (SOLVED!!!!)

Hi, when driving into a strong wind or driving 75-80+ mph I get a high pitched wind noise from the A pillar area on the drivers side. Taking it in for my second oil change tomorrow and will mention the noise. Just curious if anyone else has experienced this and what was the solution.

Thanks in advance for the replies. I tried searching and didn't come up with much, but then again I'm a newb and may not have used the search to the best of it's abilities.

 

Do you have ventshades on? I get that once in a while on my passanger side 2010 DCLB after adding the ventshades.

 

This is supposed to be a third gen issue, not a second gen

I've been noticing the same wind noise. Happens at about 70MPH or higher, when side wind gusts hit the vehicle. It seems to me that it's coming from up under the front fender, on both sides. I'm wondering if it's the flexible black plastic "water-block" panels around the inside of the wheel well. I'm thinking that the wind is causing them to vibrate at times.

 

I'm just getting loud wind noise like wind is coming through the seals. It doesn't make any whistle or high-pitched sound, just noise as if the window was slightly rolled down. Also going in for my 5k oil change in next couple weeks. Going to see if they'll adjust door to get better seal if it doesn't work then I'll do something to beef up the seals

 

Yeah mine does the same thing. (2015 DCSB SR5). I checked all the seals and they seem good. I just turn the stereo up louder.

 

The infamous Tacoma kazoo. Lots of threads on it. A couple guys have tested it fairly extensively and as far as I know they haven't found a fix yet.

 

Mine is a high pitched vibrating noise. Similar to if you blow across a piece of grass or cellophane but slightly lower pitch. It's disappointing to hear others have this issue with no known fix. I hope I didn't spend 32k on a vehicle with wind noise issues!

 

I've have the same problem on my 2010. It comes from the a piller seel between the door. I notice my gets worse when it get colder out. If you put your fingers in the jamb while driving it goes away. I am eventually just going to try and replace the seel.

 

I noticed this issue this spring, about 1 year after I bought the truck new. Didn't hear it at all for the first year and I put 15k miles on it so it was definitely seeing some use. This spring we had a long road trip with lots of wind and this noise showed up and was almost constant. It sounded like a kazoo and would switch from the driver's to passenger's A-pillar depending on the wind direction. After that it would start happening anytime there was a good crosswind and we were going over 65mph, but it was most common at 75+.

I took it in to the dealer and by some kind of miracle was able to actually replicate the problem with a service tech in the vehicle to witness it. They opened a case and said they'd get back to me, and then for 3-4 months I didn't hear anything. Last month I called Toyota Corporate and complained directly and the dealer got back to me the next day. They had a Toyota factory service guy visiting the next week so I dropped it off for the day and he took a look at it. He told the guy at the dealership the problem area is the door seal weatherstripping along the A-pillar and he bent the metal on the doors near the problem area just a little bit, enough to help it seal tighter. I looked it over very closely and can't see any difference at all. Didn't cost anything but my time so it wasn't too bad of an experience overall.

About a week later we had a good windy day that I'm pretty sure would have caused the noise again so I took it out on the interstate and went 85mph for a few miles in both directions and only heard it happen once. It was a brief muted buzz for about 3 seconds, so I can live with that. I have a long road trip next month so if it gets thru that OK and we encounter a lot of wind I'll get back in touch and let them know it's fixed.

Also for the record I printed out the TSB for the windshield gasket (from back in 2006 or 2009 I think) and provided links to those threads but the factory guy said that's a different issue and doesn't affect the 2014s.

Luckily my little brother was my Toyota salesman. So I shouldn't have too much problem at the dealer. I'll report back on what they say.

 

Took my truck to the dealer yesterday for 10K maintenance and to have them look at the issue. Looks like I'll be calling the service manager. The girl that was the service advisor was dumb. She was rude about not looking at my truck on a Saturday, got it, I'll make an appointment. What really got me though was having to argue with her about upgrading my oil change to synthetic. She said "The Tacoma takes a special oil, you can't use synthetic". She then tried to explain how you can't put 0W 30 synth in a motor that requires 5W 30 Dino oil..... How can someone so dumb be allowed to be a "Service Advisor"? SMDH..

 

Having the same problem with my truck wind noise on the drivers side. I've got 12500 miles on it.

 

I keep seeing all kinds of problems from different people thinking I might need to trade for another Jeep. Wind noise,brake noise, clunking somewhere under the truck, mud flaps rubbing speed bumps WTF is next. Only 12500 miles on it.

 

I have a fix for the clunking!!! There's a tsb on it somewhere . I just had mine fixed. It did it since it was new and it drove me crazy!!! It's something to do with the driveshaft . Something about the core inside it had come loose or something. But give them the tsb number and they'll fix it. I'll try to find it for you ...

It blows my mind how many ill informed people work at dealerships. The average Joe doesn't know any better and just figures "Well you are the expert." This is why I avoid dealerships at all costs. I am actually debating whether or not to use my 4 free oil changes because I don't trust them.

 

Mine sounds like a bugleing bull elk during the rut.
I just daydream I'm on the hunt of a lifetime in Wyoming or Utah.

Have you ever tried to have it fixed?

The only reason I took my truck there was because of the free service and I have been working 7 days a week lately. I was 300 miles past due and didn't want to add another 1000 miles worth of Thanksgiving travel to that. I marked my tires to see if they actually rotated them, and they did. So at least they did that. I'm really particular about my vehicles, and it bugs me to let people work on them, especially when I can't watch.

 

lol because you're on an enthusiast site with hundreds of Tacomas and people that complain about the littlest things. And if you think a Jeep of all things will be problem-free you're in for a rude awakening.
