Is your factory toneau cover even a little bit water tight

My truck sat in the rain for 24 hours. I opened the back and found this. I don't expect it to be 100% but come on.

Look like your bed cleats might be in the way. Move them so there's enough room for the tonneau rest flushly. Mine gets a little water but nowhere near that much...

I've run mine through a car wash several times and I only get a little bit in the corners by the tailgate. A lot less than what is in that pic.

From the picture it looks like your bed cleats are in the way and need to be moved further back. That's how it was on mine and a couple others (it was in another thread about the cover) Since I did that I haven't had any water get in the bed through multiple rain/snow storms. Try that and see if it helps

Yup what he said. I moved my cleats over and very very little water gets in now.

Didn't take a picture after the most recent rain yesterday but here's mine a couple months ago right after I bought it. Bed cleats were still in the back floor board so we can rule out them getting in the way.

I had an issue when I first got it, but I found that it was because the latches on the back portion of the cover were not fully latched. I try not to slam it and if I push down on each corner I can hear them "click" into place. After I realized this and have made certain it was actually closed and not just sitting on the tailgate I don't have any issues. Not water tight, but I definitely wouldn't worry about things back there getting soaked.

Yes, that is a bed light. My local dealer installed it. The parts counter said it was listed for a 2016 Tacoma but their installer said the part number is for a 2015. The wire routing diagrams in the instructions did not exactly match my truck but he was able to route everything perfectly, and attach to the proper switches. They function right along with the cab mounted cargo light which has it's own switch, i.e. ON/OFF/DOOR.

I'll check my latches today and see if they click twice. Thx.

Water getting in is a concern for me and made me cancel the tonneau. I hope it all works out. I agree it is not acceptable for water to get in. I have a $200 lepera cover on my tundra that is as watertight as a frogs a-hole

I think it takes a bit for the seal to break in. initially when i got the truck there were lots of gaps on the first and last panel but over time it started to settle. so hopefully once its all settled itll have better leak protection.

IMO, the cover is definitely not designed to be water tight. My thoughts:

    - In order to prevent water in the bed, you'd also need to make the tail gate water tight, which would require some rubber liner.. which currently do not exist.
    - Also the seals on tonneau cover around the bed are multi-piece and not continuous (this allowing the cover to fold). However, it also prevents the cover from making a waterproof seal.
    - I also can see light coming in from the corners near the cabin... this could probably be sealed up with some kind of caulking.

I think with some modification, you could probably get almost waterproof though. but i agree.. I would have expected the cover to be leak proof but it just isn't designed that way

My whole reasoning for a cover is to protect from the elements. Locking is great, but I don't want to lock my stuff in a shower.

For example:kids backpacks, dirt, fishing g poles, tackle, luggage, cordless tools, etc.

That would be a logical person's assumption but obviously not to Toyota.

I am going to get an access Larado top. I can't get myself to use a tote. The bed is a tote.

Same here. Once I figured this out, it seals much tighter
