06 original headlights - restoration/ maintenance

1st attempt to make a product results post. Used the Mothers brand headlight restoration powerball kit. Whole job took an hour. Effects last for at least 6 months before starting to need done again. Full Florida weather in effect-

Not bad. I recently worked on the headlights on an 03 Matrix that were pretty gazed over and yellow. I did a wet sanding starting with a 400 grit sandpaper then stepping down to 800 then 1500 then 2000. Once done I cleaned them with a alcohol then sprayed several coats of clear lacquer for plastic with uv block. What a difference when done. Good job. Keep em waxed.

Looks much better. The reason the effects are so temporary is that the lens UV stabilization is lost. Rather than repeat the process every 6 months, you can add a UV stabilizer coating after the restore, and just reapply the coating every 6 months which is much less work.

I don't have experience with this product, but the Mequiars coating has been recommended by other members. And Mequiars in general makes good stuff.

I didn't think the mothers was a wax at first cause the kit came with a small pad of wet sandpaper w like 800g on one side and 1500 or 2000g on the other for getting small pits or crust off and I thought the goo was for cutting the haze coat but I realized it was a wax after I washed the truck and the water beaded off like rain X. So ima find me that Mcguiers UV coating mentioned!!!!
