I don't let dealers touch my truck to do oil changes, they use the cheapest person they can hire and one screw up [like leaving the filter or drain plug loose] can cost an engine. There are very few things one can do to a vehicles that can cause so much expensive damage so quickly to a vital piece of the truck. [engine]

Besides, I'm under no time constraints to take parts off or put them back on [skid plates and such] so I can carefully loosen bolts and use anti-seize on the threads when they go back on. I can also touch up any rust spots under the truck at the same time as I'm doing the change and grease Zerk fittings and look for any potential issues. All a dealer will do is run off a sheet that says you need $1000 worth of repairs or maintenance that no one actually bothered to look and see if it was already done. [Nissan was always great for that, when my Z went in for recall work I got a huge list of things that NEEDED to be done ASAP, problem was, every single one had been done within the past 2 months and 1000 miles when it was stored for the winter.]

I think this is where my noise comes from, can you please detail how you did this and possibly take pictures to help? I know it would be very helpful, as a lot of people have this issue but no one has posted a fix with good details anyone can follow.

I chose not to use the free oil changes because I just applied FF to my truck and didn't want them to wipe any of it off while doing their maintenance. I can imagine a greased up frame is irritating to a shop guy so I just wanted to avoid the whole situation by doing it myself.

Exactly. Because nothing says 'problem free' like a Mopar product. lol

I came from a 2012 wrangler when I got the taco, and it was starting to develop problems at 45k. I liked it don't get me wrong but I wouldn't paint Jeeps as reliable especially vs a Tacoma. Hell even look at subarus which are right up there with Toyota and Honda in reliability ratings, if you go to a Subaru forum you see problems too. Most notably their boxer engines burning ridiculous amounts of oil.

With the jeep the manual trans was quirky from day one, couldn't downshift to 3rd unless you jammed it in and held it there. Reverse had to be jammed in too. My cruise control was starting to go out, I had to hit all the cruise buttons a few times before it would come on. It started making a squeaking noise when driving too.

If you off road heavily I think there is nothing in this price range better than a Wrangler. I did from time to time but a vast majority of my driving is on road which is why I decided to switch.

Jeeps are not problem free I've had Jeeps for over 35 years. This is my first Toyota been thinking of buying my Wife a 4 runner or something like that. But think I will wait until I see how this goes. As far as having work done at dealerships some are good some really suck just checked the air in my tires 25lbs after they CHECKED them and changed the oil. I would assume the rubber gasket around the doors are leaking because I see air bubbles when I wash it. The clunking I'll let them know about along with the brakes. I think I will trim the mud flaps myself. One thing about a Jeep there is a lot of them and they are always ready and willing to help.

Trying to take the mud flaps off I see the 3 screws and of course I know how to remove those but what about the 3 push in type rubber stops? Will they have to be replaced or is there a secret trick

I get the same kazoo sound at 70+mph on driver side, its worse when its windy. Mine comes from the window, when I get the sound I push outward on the window and sound changes pitch. I also noticed when i have my window half way down it rattles a bit as if its not properly seated.

Room to haul stuff was huge for me too. It is hard to fit a pair of neatly folded socks in a 2 door wrangler if you don't take the back seat out. I had a little trailer for Home Depot runs and whatnot. Wranglers hold resale very well luckily enough so I got out of mine for about a dime a mile, which i figure is about right.

Jeep Wranglers and Toyota Tocomas do have the best resale value. I just can't figure out why they don't come already sitting level and the mud flaps at the correct height. Seems like those are the most common complaints from just about everyone on here.

I did not replace the plastic pins after I trimmed mine and put the flaps back on. Haven't had a problem.

OP where in texas are you? I'm in Austin and had the same issues, took it to AutoNation Toyota about a dozen time and they replaced everything and even had a factory rep and still nothing would fix it. I decided to try the weathertech vent shades, it seemed to work for some. It actually did work on 13 Tacoma so it might be worth a try because we both have the exact same noise in the same place... just a thought
