I would go with the Off Road you get more for your money over the Sport, unless you like those cosmetics more.

they basically cost about the same so why not get all the goodies the off road offers even if you wind up never using them.

In the long run they actually do not cost the same. Insurance is higher on the OR and it gets less MPG. The OR will cost more money over time. As far as resale is concerned. It's hard to tell ATM which trim level will retain its value. Most likely they will be of equal value. Assuming same configurations and both are in "excellent condition"

I guess I get a do-over now Baja Roof Rack, SOS Concepts Bed Bars, Tepui RTT,SOS Concepts Streamline, (mostly)Keeping it washed

The resale is not a massive concern. My current vehicle is a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee..........I basically keep stuff til I get sick of it which seems to be forever :) Now, why is the insurance higher on the OR? (I hate insurance rates as it is............so I ask out of concern)
    Thanks!

AFAIK, there is no mechanical LSD on the Gen 3, Sport or not. All trims have a brake-based electronic system (TRAC). Otherwise, your list looks comprehensive and accurate.

The Off Road has the black fender flares and black lower bumper lip, it along with the wheels are part of the rugged look.
The Sport has painted flares and bumper lower lip, with the hood scoop, it's part of the "street" look.
    IMO. YMMMV.

Thank you for the correction. So all models have the TRAC, just the OR has the locker?

They didn't really tell me. I asked for quotes on both trims before I bought the OR was higher. My guess is the OR trim is more likely to be involved in a collision or cosmetically damaged

The only way you will know is to test drive them both for yourself. I wanted the OR version until I drove it. The power difference was too much for me. True or not I felt that the OR was geared differently and it didn't suit me. The hood scoop on the sport is cosmetic and it does affect your view of the road or trail but unless you are rock crawling it is immaterial. Everyone has their version of the ideal truck. Mine will be different from yours so just go drive them. In SC you have lots of loose clay and sand, rocks are scarce unless you go looking for them. Your roads are fairly flat and hills are gradual. The MPG will benefit you on the sport.

    That's my $0.02

That hood scoop might be the only thing keeping the hood together.

Not sure about that info. I just bought an OR and my insurance was not affected by that at all. You can always call and get a quote for both to double check. Personally, I like the OR over the sport.

While the OR is overkill for most of my needs, it's better to have and not need than the other way around. I also prefer the more rugged look, less paint to take care of, etc.

But, most people will be bias towards the truck they bought. In the end, you have to figure out what's best for you.

    Correct.
Insurance is based on the VIN. Meaning value. A loaded SR5 could possibly be equal/more than a base TRD.

This really depends on how hard you wheel. I cannot afford to wheel my brand new truck hard so the stock tires are good for me for the time being and I'm sure at least 85% of people out there. Now if you do any serious offroading I would recommend at least a c rated tire. E rated tires, imo, are too heavy for a light truck like the Tacoma.

But the tires on the off road are much better than what comes on the sport. Unless you plan on staying on pavement

The other thing I will need to find for the truck is some kind of seat covering for the back.....dogs and kid mess.....suggestions? So far I have struck out....need to be able to use seat belts with it in place. .....cuz yall know the messes kids and dogs can make.....rofl!

Awesome views by all so far! This is helping clear a lot of the confusion I had!

Get the OR, especially if the price difference is a little over a grand between the two, you won't regret all the goodies that come with the OR. I went off-roading with my OR, and jeep guys with lifts and good tires were scratching their heads asking "is that thing stock?"..
