I have no clue i bought it used. Looks like it was some sort of custom cage on top or cross bars

Can you post pics with the tool boxes open? Also maybe a shot from the back with the tailgate and rear hatch open? I'm thinking of a similar setup on mine, but nobody stocks these units, and the manufacturer stock photos are always on full size trucks.....

That's cool. You can definitely use those as a base for a rack or platform.

Could a person about 6' tall sleep comfortably in the back of a short bed? That's one of the major reasons I would get a shell

I'm a little under 6ft and the only way I can fit completely in my SB is laying diagonally across the bed... And comfortable is not the word to describe it. If you left the tailgate down, it is doable.

i quickly learned that sleeping out in the back of the truck with a shell is not the most ideal setup. Even with my long bed. Not so much the sleeping arrangements as much as having to pull all of your crap out of the bed in order to sleep back there. We have be fortunate enough to get a RTT and have loved every night in it. Especially because i can close up camp for the night and lock away any valuables in the back of the truck. Also gives my pup a place to sleep in the back of the truck. Like a two story motel :D

Pup sleeps in the bed of the truck...

Here is my previous truck and cap.
01 Tacoma Radiant Red DCSB with Leer 100XQ, w/Tint Windows, Dome Light, Gray headliner, Thule Rack on artificial raingutters mounts, Front Slider Window, Color matched from the dealer. Sold the trunk w/cap in Oct 2015.

    Replaced it with:
Used 14 Tacoma Super White DCLB w/ Leer 100XR, w/Tint Windows, Dome Light, Gray headliner. Got lucky and found the Cap on CL for $400 and the OEM Steps for $200 the first week.

I think they are Yakima Bolt Toploader brackets.

I'm 6'2" and I don't sleep in my long bed. I have done it but like others have said diagonal and even then not really comfortable. I have found that pitching a tent takes less time than unloading the bed for sleeping.

Yeah this is what I figured, ideally I would fork out $1500 for an RTT but it would be convenient to be able to crash in the back with just a platform

    Thanks for the input guys
