    Hello everyone,

I'm in need of some guidance. I've been trying to get someone in Denver to help me install a dual battery system. Every time I talk to someone I get a different answer etc. I'm trying to set up my truck so that I can run an electric heater in my rooftop tent or a fan in the summer. I would like an isolator with a gauge but it isn't necessary if works the same

I've had people offer to install the system in the bed of my truck, and every other place but I want everything under the hood.

    Thoughts...

Why not do it? I just came back from SOuth Africa and everyone has a system to run dual batteries.

First question, it's somewhat redundant, because it's still relevant to the following question I'm about to ask, but do either of you offroad?

To everyone asking why, not to say you can't do it. I personally do not condone it. If you want to know why, go out to your vehicle and take a look at the top of the cross bar on your radiator support and attempt to twist it. You can do it barehanded.

The sheetmetal for the radiator support is so cheap that it is constructed using near soda can metal. It can and will begin to collapse under the weight of the stock battery alone over time, which will also begin to slowly crack your radiator support bulkhead as well. Whether you offroad or not, it's actually fairly common even on street queen Tacoma's.

Two 70+ lb batteries (if they are Optima) on top of the sheetmetal will almost guaranteed destroy your radiator support in much shorter order.

Seen a dual battery set up in double cab behind the seat, thought that looked slick.

You could always run two lithium batteries (look up ultralight batteries). Each one is around 1000 dollars but only weigh 6lbs each. they are also small enough that you could probably mount them elsewhere because they are smaller. consider a small lithium setup for the second unit since you will want to keep weight down and be able to drain much lower then a lead acid battery.

What kind of help do you need? I'm running dual batteries under the hood and slowly developing a mount for OR models.

    Dude what happened?!

Didn't you see my radiator support? It's thrashed just off the weight of the stock battery alone. Granted I offroad and pretty hard at that, but nevertheless this can and will happen even if you drive on the street. It will take longer but I digress. The point is, dual batteries in the stock location or even anywhere on the fenderwell if relocated, seperated, etc, will crack, tear, collapse the stock sheetmetal in the front end without a doubt. The problem is amplified if you run Optima's since they are so dang heavy.
