What did you use for the sound deadening Nick? Looks good as always!

The stripped bolt was my fault.

When I greased the bolts for the very first time in 2013 I failed to clean the threads with a wire brush and it got all fubared up  This weekend I backed the nut off and upon tightening, it let go on me. Easy fix though, and I'm glad it was in my driveway and not BFE. :)

I am long overdue for some proper skids. One of the first things I'll do after gears is skids.

Of all the projects I've done on the truck, this one is the most taxing. :boom:

I have (8) hours solid into the back doors alone. They were apart for about 2 weeks before I finally was able to finish them. Next I'll do one door at a time for the front. Part of it is I've never done it before so the first ones are always the slowest. Front should go faster, but I'm definitely going to run out of time and wont be able to finish until some time in Jan.

Deadner product is made by Noico on Amazon, and I found MLV there too. If you search back in build thread, you'll find links to products.

I just did the ATO Shackle Flip with Dakars. Had DSMS tune some new 12" Fox Resi with Adjuster. Should have them tomorrow. I am going to wheel it and see how I like it. Incidentally, I've been using Dakars for years (after an AP 3" became a 1" in just months). I recently changed them out for some new ones but the old ones looked like and proved to have lived their past 5 - 6 years well in their elastic range since the new ones gave me no appreciable additional lift - within 1/4" - 1/2". The Flip is a bit higher than I liked but we shall see after a few hundred miles of romping in the desert.

Sorry for jumping all over but what is this material. I sound 'proofed' my truck and it's still loud. :)

Love this! I bet my brand new TRD fakelock with a brand new KM2 on it is still bouncing somewhere on Hell's Revenge! lol Lost that spare the first day of a 2 week wheeling trip. The last day was spent hobbling off of a 90 mile loop (included Elephant Hill) with a 4 inch gash in my sidewall. We stuffed it with 50 plugs, rolls of electrical tape, rolls of that self-vulcanizing tape, and everything else including my better half's shoe soles. We had enough CO2 to seat the bead and then every 3 minutes we had to stop to air up. We did that from about 7 p to 3 a. Most women would kill for having had that problem but we had a great time. :)

Hey @Crom ,did you ever figure out a mounting solution to the rear cargo area (behind the rear seats)? I've read through your current soundproofing project and you decided not to replace the plastic bins, but was wondering if you came up with anything. I really wanted to get in on the aluminum Molle panel, but it looks like that product is on a hiatus at the moment. Then I got to thinking about your l-track solution for the bed. I figure it's modular and can be reconfigured quickly for each trip with specific gear if need be. My only concern (I've never worked with l-track) is do the mounting rings and brackets rattle at all? Perhaps when they wear? That would get old really fast... Thoughts?

That is really great to hear. I have plans to redo my rear, mainly to get rid of the too-short OME rear shock. The ATO shackle flip is resurfacing as a viable option. I was conerened about the e-brake getting too tight at full droop but Spencer @ragincajun35 confirmed for me that it's not a problem. The longer shocks sound dreamy. The valving is so important for shocks. I forget which thread I read it in or who posted but someone measured an AP leaf pack, vs Dakar and a third spring, a Deaver, all on the same truck. From what I recall, the Dakar got the best doop out of the bunch...

If you don't mind keep me posted somehow on your developments with the 12" Fox's. Very curious. :)

What you saw in that pic is Mass Loaded Vinyl. It is the very best way to block noise.

Four lines of attacking noise are:

    1. Dampen, which changes resonance by adding density.
    2. Decouple, by adding foam which separates layers and helps stop vibrations from being transmitted.
    3. Absorb, special foam.
    4. Block.
Of the four attack methods, blocking is the most effective at stopping noise; and absorbing is the least effective in an automobile.

Best site for a solid education on the subject is http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/ Everything is based on scientific research and experience. Absolutely solid, free education.

What an amazing adventure! That's just awesome right there! The ultimate in tire do whatcha can with whatcha got, to get home. Wow!

Thanks for the comments, very welcome. I forgot when it happened, in 2010, but an ankle surgery I had, took me out of David K's Baja Mission Santa Maria wheeling trip you did with your wife way back when. Would have been nice to wheel with you.

    Thank you. You're welcome.

I thought about laying some track down there, holes can be drilled through the floor and washers and nuts applied from below. A couple 2" or 6" pieces could be really effective.

Also, by looking at the pic below, you might be able to attach something to that support bar and use it for tie downs, like eye bolts. That would be pretty easy I would thing.

My plan for back there won't be storage though. The kids car seats prevent me from getting back in there for any length of time. I will eventually put the air compressor back there, just like mr grimm did his.

Strangely enough I got back there today and put some strips of damper product in there.

Child cut them strips faster than I could install them! She did great helping me. Made her feel really good about her work.

Thanks for the response. Good stuff. I will keep you updated as results come in. Tomorrow night I will weld up the new mounts for the resi's. I am still up in the air as to wether or not this is what I will keep. Regarding the ATO kit, I am a bit skeptical about the extra holes in the universal set up. Concerned they will eat up bushings. If I like the ride, I will either weld up the extras or install some plugs. Looks like you have great help. :)

I am certainly thankful for that David K trip. He got me to get back to Mexico and shortly thereafter I got to co-drive the start of the B1K... that led up to a pinnacle experience of being part of the Toyota team led by Ivan Stewart in winning the B1K. :) Once again, without David K convincing me to go to Baja with him, this experience would not have been mine. :)

Paul, Thanks so much! With two posts you have single handedly increased the awesomeness factor in here by 10,000%. So much win in you pics and experiences. I'm going to share your pics with my family today... :D

And just wow at the pics! The truck at the finish line, is that a sheet metal rip down the side?

The rip was from a pass in a silt bed. The chaos that ensued afterwards would take a 30 page thread to share so I get will have to wait for a campfire.

Regarding this, my current position is that I would have kept my old set up. I have now created a fabrication project that I really did not want to get into. Oh well, live and learn. If you are seriously considering doing this to your truck, unless you have a miraculous plan, I would wait until you see a few setup's in person and say, "That's what I want." :) I have yet to see that setup but if you do, send it my way. :)
