2016 4x4 TRD Sport

Just wanted to share a few modifications I've done with my truck as well as let you all know (not that you didn't know already) but...very capable off road...nothing short of amazing. I had the front grill painted with plastidip and looks great...also de-badged the truck and had TRD wheels and 275/70/17 BF Goodrich tires put on. There was slight rubbing with the front tire so I had a small section of plastic cut out in the fender well... she didn't rub the entire off road trip.

We did the back road up to Crown King starting from Lake Pleasant. It's about a 5 hour drive, maybe a little less. It's a perfect run for the truck and a nice drive.

I love that inferno color! That was my second choice.. I usually nod or acknowledge somehow my fellow Tacoma brethren, haha. See you on the mean streets of PHX.

Looks great! So no change to the stock suspension then? Where did you
get the wheel & tire package?

 

No change to the stock suspension and I got the tires through Discount Tires and the wheels from A1 Auto online separately. I've seen the wheels on eBay as well. Again, some rubbing on the back of the front fender well but very minor and only when you have the wheel turned just right and the tire is forced back. Fixed it by cutting out a small piece of the fender.

Did you do anything to recalibrate the speedometer for the increase in tire size?

 

This is the back of the front wheel well. The bolt you see is the bottom of the two bolts you'll find under there.

 

I didn't do any recalibration of the speedometer....My scientific tests (haha) of comparing my indicated speed to those traffic speedometers you find flashing at you on the side of the road sometimes (especially school zones) showed negligible difference...I might be going two miles an hour faster than indicated on my speedometer..not worth getting excited over in my humble opinion.

 

I have grey too and I love those wheels. Exact same setup I wanted to get but I was in a dilemma because I didn't want to lift my truck just yet. (mainly because of cost) I do want bigger tires though. Does anyone with more experience know how this size wheel/tire will look if I do decide to lift the truck later down the road?
