    Well put. I realize my post was on the "harsh" side. I overdid it a little. It just kind of ticks me off when someone is blaming someone else who did nothing wrong for what someone else did. I didn't really mean to imply I wouldn't buy King shocks based on what one or two people said about ICON based on behavior of the past owner. I'm going to have to look up what Donahoe actually did because it almost sounds as if he was partnering with the Taliban or was a serial killer or something.:confused: I'm still thinking about it and I've got a couple more months to think.

    This is an old post, but has Fox changed this in the past few years? Because all the specs I'm reading for these shocks say they use aluminum.

    Fox resi's are steel. King is aluminum. At least with the 2.5" and larger shocks. Both use steel shock bodies.

    @jberry813 question for you on shock valving: how do valves handle reversing direction, for purposes of the shaft velocity vs damping force discussion?

    As I understand it, digresive valves provide less force as the shaft velocity increases. When the shock switches from compression to rebound does velocity go to zero for purposes of the damping force, or (assuming the rebound is as similar to the compression) does the shaft speed remain high?

    I think this may be better described looking g at the first derivative of speed?

    I'm not sure I entirely understand the question. Define "valves". Purely in terms of a smooth body, the piston has flow ports. Flow ports for rebound and compression are completely separate. When you switch directions from comp to rebound, the comp ports are blocked by the largest compression shim so all the fluid flows through the rebound flow ports. Same is true for a vice versa direction change. Velocity doesn't really matter regardless of brand. Icons have a dished piston that preloads the shims but the largest shim still acts the same way and blocks reverse fluid flow (unless you add a riser washer/shim which would allow for free bleed).

    Or are you asking about bypasses?

    Inthinknyou answered the question, which is that compression and rebound are unrelated?

    Put it another way: when looking at a damping force vs shaft velocity curve that is either for compression or for rebound? When the shaft changes direction you either switch to the other curve, or (if both were set the same) velocity goes to zero, then accelerates the other direction.

    Super happy with my Kings, this thread on the other hand, wow.
    All three options are so much better than your basic shocks you can't go wrong. Let's face it 95% of us buying these setups aren't Bj Baldwin shredding through the desert.
    Weather your color choice is black, grey, or blue, the truck will be night and day better!

    I Really wanted Kings or ICONS but I went with OME. For what I do which is daily driving and very little off road use they work fine. I will say that although I am very happy with my OME which are a HUGE improvement over the worn out stock suspension I can easily see that King, ICON or ADS as well as another multitude of suspension manufacturers can deliver a superior ride. A ride that OME can't touch which is why they cost twice what OME costs. Other than the low speed harshness that OME shocks provide because they are designed to carry loads off road I have NO complaints. When it comes to on road handling they are fantastic. Off road they are a little harsh but I can deal with that since I don't do off road very often. I still have Kings or ICON on my wish list but for the time being I'm very happy with my OME. What you are going to use your truck for has everything to do with what suspension system you buy and what you can afford. Everything is a compromise. For me, OME is working quite well at this time.

    Just read through 37 pages of this thread and have to say it has been extremely informational (but more so entertaining). After separating few facts from many opinions I think Taco Suave showed it best . . .

    See the difference in body roll at 12 sec in both these videos? that is the difference in digressive vs progressive. So for you weekend warriors who Daily your taco and do more than 70% highway IT REALLY DOESNT MATTER. both lean, both shocks go up and down and most wont know the difference. /rant

    I personally plan on going whatever I get a better deal on.
