Been quite a while now, anyone heard anything further on the leaf spring replacement?

I reckon they are just waiting and hoping all the Tacos out there will just go away....

I received a second "safety recall notice" letter on Saturday. The Cliff note version is that it was just an update to say they are still working on a fix and expect to "prepare remedy parts" and will send a letter when ready in the early part of 2016.

"We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the extended remedy preparations and thank you for your patience".

My spiral cable failed years ago (2005 Taco). After a TSB came out, they fixed it for free. It cause the airbag light to come on.

Admittedly, I have not read all the pages on this thread. I have '10 that has surface rust developing on the frame...no holes yet. Is there a recall on the frame? If so,what years? And do hole, significant damage, etc...have to be present to be considered for a frame?

I might sound silly, but how do I go about checking if my 14 taco is in need of a recall?

    Thanks, fellas.

image.jpg I got the runaround from my closest dealer. Said I was number 189 on the waiting list just for the frame inspection. "May get to you in the spring." I reminded him the campaign expires 03/31/16 then complained to corporate. Got into next closest dealer in late Sept 2015. It failed and new frame on order. Estimated 6 months until it's in and changed. Had a hole in weld about 1"x2". Don't wait on this. Get it inspected before March.

    Hillbilly Willy,
did you expect your frame to fail or did the dealer find this hole with the hammer?
I've got an appt for next week and think my frame could go either way...

I had not noticed hole. Believe their hammer test revealed it. I figured I'd get the new frame though. It's real rough overall. I live in central PA where they love to drop liquid brine on roads.

Brought mine in on Saturday, dealership found a small hole and said I need a new frame, not sure if it was there or was a result of the test, once approved by Toyota they said it should be about 6 weeks before the new frame is in.

So right after I bought my '10 last January the dealer did a 'leaf spring recall' inspection and said it was fine. Today my left leaf spring broke while driving. Is this still covered under the recall? Or are they going to say they did the recall and now I'm on the hook for the repair?

You should be covered. They are still under an interim recall on the leafs. They basically don't know wtf they are going to do. Replace entire leaf pack or add a leaf. I hope they figure it out by the time my new frame is in so they can fix it all at once. If your leaf is broken they should fix immediately as the broken piece could rupture the plastic fuel tank. Don't take no for an answer.

There are images in the Frame Rust Recall thread that show the leaf springs as a part of the frame replacement.

Same concept with warranty based on years or mileage. They set a date. If you don't agree you must appeal to toyota corporate. It is reviewed case by case

it's not a recall, it's a limited service campaign (LSC).
they put limits on the vehicle years it covers, the states the trucks were registered in, and the duration of the campaign.
    did you get a letter?

Yes got a letter, but they said they would send another letter when they had a solution. I ignored it, I want to put a lift on it so I thought I would have the frame looked at before I did anything.
