First measurement is center of wheel to fender. 2nd measurement is top of tire to fender

448 pages...is a lot. I've skimmed about 30 of them...not in any particular order either. I gather that I need 887 coils since I have no weight up front, but I want to clear 285 tires. The 886s I have are 1. new, and 2. not TERRIBLE...but if they're not going to settle, the ride is going to be too harsh in the long term.

That's the goal, but I can't find a clear answer on whether 885 coils will clear 285 tires.

If I'm not mistaken neither will truly clear 33s

I know cutting/banging/trimming will likely be necessary, but obviously you no amount of trimming would get 285s to fit at stock height. So as far as coils go...I want to make sure height-wise will 885s get me enough clearance to get the 285s on. If I have to do 885s + spacer, I'd just go 887s.

Thanks! That's what I wanted to know. Cab mount, inner fender, pinch welds, etc will be in the way in other ways separate from "is there enough room in the wheel well".

they'll stuff in the wheel well fine once all cutting and trimming is done.

Been mulling that over, too. I'd prefer not to cut the cab mount. I'm ok with banging some metal out of the way and trimming some plastic. Thinking about going 255/85/16s or just 265/75/16s. I don't rock climb with the truck, but it's also not a mall crawler. The 285s are appealing for the additional 1" of TRUE clearance.

So would 285s fit on a 2nd gen with stock suspension all around? I always assumed it wouldn't because the height between hub and fender was too short.

the cab mount chop is easier to do than you'd think. i ordered the CMC plates from bamf and should be here tomorrow so i'll let you know how that goes. 255's were what i wanted, but nobody carries them where i live. i moved up from 265's a couple of weeks ago and the 285's i have now make the truck look better proportioned.

Guess I understand the word clear differently. When someone asks will this tire clear I just assume clear means without modification to the truck
Best of luck making those 285s clear :sawzall:
