I dislike you all! I miss NorCal. I just got reassigned to IL...flat lands snow, but no mountains.

Yea...I wouldn't be able to use the lever if i didn't. I told marty we should relocate the brain so we wouldn't have to cut so much but he said it's a bad idea??? But it doesn't bother me. I might try to relocate it down the road. Grills are pretty cheap.

Don't those cause the steel line to snap?

:notsure: I've never heard that. I usually try to get my truck as straight as possible so the cable hardly even touches it. I'll move to synthetic line eventually. My steel cable is sketchy as beans because my uncle wrapped it around a tree and hooked the hook to the cable itself. My line has 2 kinks in it and it's rather frightening to use when it's under strain. I always control the winch from inside the truck and don't let anyone stand near when I'm using it to try to keep people safe if it snaps.

I got my winch from my uncle and I asked why the cable had the kinks in it and he said "I had to wrap it around a tree." The tree strap that was in his winch utilities bag was clean as a whistle. It hadn't even been unrolled.

He probably had no clue what that strap was for, or the safety concerns with hooking to the cable. I just don't use the winch often enough to justify shelling out the $$$ for 100' of 20k lb rated synthetic line.
