Hey everybody! I just got orders to Eielson AFB Alaska, ill be arriving in October next year. I was wondering what remote start system are all you Alaskans using? I feel like this is going to be essential for the winters up there.. Also my truck is a 6 speed, which might complicate things a little. Thanks in advance for the help!

Cool, does the system also have keyless entry built into the remote? Or do you have two different fobs?

Yup all in one unit, I had a audiovox prestige in my old truck never had an issue with that one either, also my girl has a viper 2 way and no issues with that one, I have had a few friends with compustar and they were hit or miss with range and function... sometimes you had to be right next to it to start and or lock/unlock

I've ran CompuStar's in my vehicles for the past 10 years. I just had a basic 2 way installed in my truck back in March. Hasn't seen much use, but I enjoy it. I hate the ones with screens as I tend to crack/crush those while in my pocket.

Pretty sure I got a Prime G9 2-Way. Not at home now to double check it, but I believe locally installed it was around $400-500.

I too drive a manual. There's a procedure in order to allow the vehicle to start. You must leave it in neutral, with the parking brake on. Feet off the pedals, turn the key to shut the truck off. However if done right the truck will stay on with the key removed. The vehicle then automatically locks and shuts the truck off once the last door is closed.

Are there a number of steps you have to take to enable the remote start? All the systems I've read up on require you to have it in neutral with the doors locked, and if the doors become unlocked, the remote start becomes disabled.

I have a manual and for mine it has to be in neutral and pull the lever out twice I can hear a click and the dash/parking lights stay on, soon as i leave and close my door it stops running. Once you open any door prior to starting it with the fob its kills the steps

I am looking to get a remote start as well. I like the compustar one that AKHawkeye posted. I think I would break the screen on the LCD display ones, but like that it is still 2 way, and tells you that your truck is actually running. Also, I like that it is not an alarm as well.

Any other reccomendations on similar units?
I have just started researching these today, hoping to get real
    User feedback on more units.

Whatever you decide to get, get it while you're down in the lower 48. I'm at Eielson AFB now and it is not cheap around here.

Viper 5704v - works great but definitely not 1 mile range! I wish I could turn off my headlights with it though (say after I start my truck with remote start and then stop it with remote start, all without going outside)

I have the compustar in both (daily) vehicles now, happy with both. Both systems have the 2-way LED remote.
