How tall is your lift to fit 255s?
And did you re-gear and add uca's?
Any cutting?

 

The difference between the maxx and km2 is negligible. It's going to drive the same.

You guys are cracking me up. Seriously, I wanted to keep the coopers but they pulled. There's really no other alternative in 255 80r17 except the km2.

Hills , no hills, snow, ice, rain mud, more or less weight, who cares... I'll be happy she drives straight. Ill just get them sipped if they are slippery. Signing off this thread.

 

I ran mine at 35 all around, I experimented with 32 and 36, settled on 35.

Alright, thought I'd give a heads up after the switch.

The Cooper's are gone and replaced with the same size (255 80/17) BFG KM2's. The right pull is gone; she drives straight now. These BFG's are noticeably louder on the street and I can feel them "lug" more at very slow speeds (around 5mph and below). However, they are much softer feeling on the street. Aired up the same as the Cooper's were, but I no longer feel the harsh transfer of every bump and imperfection from the road into the cab that the ST Maxx tired had. Im much happier with the softer ride, even though both are E rated.

 

Thank you for the review, definitely appreciated. But sounds like your overly concerned with a soft ride on the road that you should probably get some radial tires. I love these tires because of the road manors I experience mixed with their off road capabilities. I read too often people contemplating tires and keep mentioning weight, load range, and soft rides. I can only think if you want a soft ride you shoulda bought a Cadillac. I like driving my truck on or off road with the Cooper ST Maxx because they get me where I need to go. I'm never concerned for a soft ride because I bought a pick up truck and expect it to ride like one. And if I was I wouldn't buy a mud terrain tire.

 

If you want a soft ride get a passenger tire, it's pretty simple. Load range E at 35+psi is always going to be a stiff ride, that's the way it is.

 

Cmon @Chux, you totally missed the point. I wasn't concerned with the St maxx ride characteristics one single bit, I had a problem with them pulling. Now after trading for the bfg's, I noticed they ride softer and it made me feel better about getting rid of them. Did you read any of my posts before the one you quoted?

 

255/85-16 fits stock suspension. Maybe some rub at full lock depending on the tire.

 

I'm happy to hear that you ended up with a tire that makes you happy! I'd be interested to know what accounted for the difference in road-feel. Could it be difference in rubber used or ply count? Hmmmm...

 

Yea, good question, I was pretty surprised when I rolled out of there and immediately felt the difference. Oh well, time to go get em dirty!

Best price I found on 265/75-16 was on eBay for some blems. $750 no tax and free shipping.

 

I wouldn't buy any blemished tires, you never know what could be wrong with them, not to mention there not DOT compliant, when I worked for Cooper tire all our blemished tires were sent overseas or to Mexico, but they do find the way back to the states, just have to be careful some could be cosmetic and some could be missing plys, or cords or who knows what... Best to buy new tires....
