Took truck to dealer to check on Engine noise...

    As another data point my 2014 FJ 4.0 also has piston slap. Same as all the other FJs I have been around. I haven't heard the goat whine on any FJs. FJs had 2 versions of the 4.0 and both seem to be noisy as hell.

    60k on it and sounds just like it did when new. Timing chains, injectors, and short piston skirts make for noisy motors.

    Any advice on how to go about getting that done?

    I'd love to see it and her an analysis from someone who understands what they're looking at as well. I just hit 5,000 miles with it and it looks really clean. I'm going to push it to 10k and change everything (w/ mobile1 filter). I'll gladly submit something if it's not a high price.

    My dealership had a 2011 fj 68 thousand miles motor was shot.Toyota was not offering any help because it was outside of the warranty period.This piston slap issue is bigger than people realize. IF EVERYBODY WITH 13 14 15 4.0 starts checking there engines for piston slap when cold .I wonder how many there is? Most people just start it up and drive.Good luck.

    $25 or so? Sign up, they'll send you the kit for free, send them some preferably mid-drain oil, and I think they send you a report in a week or two.

    I have seen multiple noisy 4.0s with close to 200k on them. Owners all said they sounded like that when new.

    well here is a update on my Tacoma which now has 1150 miles.Toyota will not make a repair attempt for the piston slap or the oil pump whine#goat whine they stated it is operating as designed? When I asked them to place a extended warranty on the vehicle since nothing is wrong with it.And the piston slap and oil pump noise will not hurt the longevity of the motor or the resale value.They Declined and stated they could not do that.If this is the new Toyota customer service I am at a loss for words.Ripped off for 32K.

    That is definitely not a normal sound... it is very hard to diagnose the sound with such poor quality audio , but it sounds to me like oil being restricted somewhere...is your Tacoma an automatic ? I had a 4 speed automatic that made the same ( similar ) sound , and the noise was traced to a dent in my transmission pan , which caused restriction of the fluid being drawn up the pickup tube in the pan, resulting in a whining/tacking noise. No damage to anything under your Tacoma ?

    Go down to another Dealership and have them look at it, get a second apion. If you're still not happy, go down to a highway nearby. Pull over to the side of the road and rev the engine until something gives!

    the whine is internal brand new truck checked the trans cooler and oil cooler for pinched lines ? nothing external.
