Canoe & Kayak Transportation?

I am wondering what my options for transporting tandem canoes, solo canoes, and kayaks with my 2015 TRD OR DCSB? Pics would be appreciated!

 

Since this picture was taken, I have padded the bars. The bars slide into the track along the bed. Takes about ten minutes to install them.

 

Single rack over the rear of the cab, and an upright that comes out of the hitch (field goal post style). This was the only option i could come up with that allowed me to keep my tonneau cover in place when transporting to keep any gear in the bed of the truck out of the weather

 

This is a great point, being able to keep the access cover in place. But what happens when you need to open the tailgate? You just dont? That's the only reason i havent considered the field goal post system. i love the first reply's setup, but im not sure where he got those mounts. they are sweet

 

I took one of those generic racks and had @phillstill weld some small tabs on the bar. This allowed me to bolt it in on the rail system using t-slot nuts.





Haven't had any issue with it yet. I upgraded my straps to 25' long so that I could secure it to the bed as well as to the rack.

ill take a pic of my setup friday..It literally is the easiest, one the safest and cheapest setup you can possibly do on a Tacoma

 

I use a super simple hitch extender that was about $70 on Amazon. Installs/uninstalls with a single hitch pin. Lets me carry my 13.5' yak in my 5' bed with no lugging up to the roof. You can see it here, kind of.

 

Your first picture looks like a great place to launch. I'm always looking for new places to kayak around the Houston area. Where is that?

 

That's Canyon Lake. It's about a good 3.5 hour drive outside of Houston

 

Timber frame rack no nails, screws or holes in the truck. Weights maybe 30# just pick it up and put it in the bed can't slide it in because of the antennas what ever I haul holds the rack down too. The up rights are 49" wide great for plywood. Guess I have had well over 200# on it.

Mine is post 976. Easy peasy if you don't need the bed while hauling.

But, flip the bed extender into vertical mode, add a roof rack, and I'm all set for bed use too.

I actually got lucky, the hitch part of the rack has just enough space for me to crack the tailgate and reach in to undo the tonneau latch, its a tight squeeze for my hand but it works, so no need to remove the canoe to get at things in the bed.

 

ill try and get pics later but i made a double U out of 1" pvc and elbows to stand my 10' yaks in on their side. they dont do much to support them, they merely hold them in place until i can get them choked and strapped down hope that makes sense.

Not the most technologically advanced piece, but holds the yaks on their side to strap them in easier, and makes a little more room.

 

Kayaks should not be transported or stored flat (right side up or upside down). Always transport and store on their side. Otherwise you risk hull distortion, flat is for floating when the hull is supported.
