Help me decide on new 2007 Tacoma...

Hi,

I'm looking for a 2007 Tacoma Prerunner and went to a few dealerships and found two options on two dealerships..

1) 2007 Prerunner Double Cab V6 (Short Bed) with SR5 Package: this was a demo car with a couple of hundred miles on it. The price was $20,995 which I thought was a good deal but I think I can haggle the price down to around $19,500 to $20,000. The nice feature is that is a double cab (in case I have passengers) and with the short bed is comparable to an access cab prerunner in length.

2) 2007 Prerunner Access Cab V6 with TRD Off-Road Package, Towing Package and Side Step bars: also a demo car with about 4,000 miles on it. I got the dealer to negotiate the price down to about $23,100. Although at the moment I don't think I'll be doing a lot of off-roading and towing (most likely will be light loading), the package of the TRD, suspension and such is attractive.

Right now I'm leaning for option 1 since I don't see right now the need for off-roading..just want a truck that can be used for moving stuff around and picking up stuff at the local Lowe's or Home depot. But is option 2 too good of a deal to pass up?

go for the second one the (off road) its better to have it and not use it then need it and not have it. Besides I think if your going to have a truck without 4x4 its a waste. Just my opinion. Good luck

 

You should get the truck that appeals to you mostly. If you like the prerunner... get it... if the money's not an issue got ahead and splurge and get the TRD. But in my opion if your never going to do any off roading or heavy towing, why waste the extra money. You can use the money you save on buying upgrades for your Prerunner, which is fun to do.

As far as 01BAMF.... I bought a 2WD because I knew I would NEVER, NEVER get my truck in a place where I would need the 4WD. That is not what I bought my truck to do. We ALL have different needs for our trucks. My truck is NOT a waste... It has helped me out in many times of need in the past 3 months that I have owned my truck.
There are a lot of us Prerunner owners out there... and we honestly do not need you telling us that our truck is a waste...
You enjoy your truck and we will enjoy our trucks!

 

As a two time P/R owner...I would go with Off Road package...the rear locker is great if you ever needed it (I use it pulling the boat out of slick ramps)...the towing package is great do to the fact if you ever need to tow something, you are doing it correctly (I would rather have too much when it comes to towing than not enough)...I personally love the suspension...the upgrade of seat material is a plus (I hate the valour stuff)...the extra trans and engine oil cooler can only help.

BUT I DO LOVE A DC...this has great leg room and is very comfortable. To each their own

To me there would be no second thought....unless it's out of the budget, then live with in your means...nothing is worth getting overextended.

I love the TRD package so i would lean toward that one, but the price seems a little steep. With as many miles as it has on it you should be able to talk him down a good bit. But it really comes down to whichever one suits you and your wallet. I would go with a TRD but thats just me. Either way you should love your truck. good luck with your truck and talking the dealer down. One method you can use is to play the two dealers against each other. Dealers will go above and beyond to get the sale, especially if they think they are gonna lose to a competitor. So mess with the dealers for a bit then make a deal.

 

The big advantage of the TRD Off Road package is:
1. E-locker for slippery places or bad weather
2. Really better seats
3. Towing package (the tow bar also stiffens the rear of the truck)
4. Larger transmission cooler
5. Better alternator
6. Stronger battery
7. Electrical outlet in bed
8. Progressive springs & better shocks

This is why I bought my '07 Access cab PreRunner Off Road package.

Thats right the TRD. The interior is nicer the suspension better and your resale will be better. The only draw back is the access cab, I wanted it because I didn't want to have to drive people around but if you ever need to they weill be uncomfortable. Not worry though you'll sittin pretty either way. Good luck ( and I bet you can get that TRD down in price some more).

Didn't mean to offend. Never intended to degrade your's or anybody else's prerunner. That's why I wrote MY OPINION, because thats exactly what it was MY OPINION for my likes and needs. Try not to take things so personal. If your happy with your truck who gives a crap what anybody else thinks. I was giving my outlook to freshtaco, just like if you asked I would give it to you. I thought that was the point of this site to offer different points of view to better the community not to attack one another.

 

its all good.. guess I do sometimes take things personal. but hey its my taco and have to take up for it.. lol.. no harm done..

 

option one and if i were you i could go even a little lower on price. here's my two cents about 4x4 if you live around an area that requires that i say go ahead, but for once in a blue moon mudding? heck why even bother you risk damaging your taco. if you have plans on just using your taco for business, option one is best for you, not to mention it's double cab, with lots of leg room for friends and family not to mention the extra's you need to haul without people looking over what's on your truck bed. did i even mention gas mileage? you save a little more in option one. well that's me ofcourse. but i do hope you weigh in your options on what you want to do with your taco.. which ever one it will be i am sure toyota was your best brand of truck to purchase.

 

4 doors or trd package? thats a good question. I LOVE my 99 4x4 but HATE my accsess cab...... thats just me tho... the 05+ accsess cab door opens to so you got that goin for ya. for me it would come down to my family.... if my wife had a good family car i would go with off road A cab. but like in my case my wife and I both have accsess cab trucks... kinda sucks to go out with other people.

good choice, i think you'll be very happy. just this morning i was late to work and had to haul ass through a bunch of combining parking lots. It doesn't handle like my Beamer but i've never been in a truck that is that agile and quick on its feet. I love the TRD package!

I'd say go for the TRD unless you really need the extra cabin room.
