Gear lube

Who uses synthetic gear lube in front/transfer/rear diff and do you see any real world benefit's from it, mpg,less load,ect ? The reason I ask is my 15 maintenance guide book specs new fluid at every 15,000 miles .( towing/ dusty, ect) . I tow bass boat less and less frequent these days but I do tow. Now if I change every 15,000 Im not sure synthetic fluid is really a worthwhile benefit ,do to cost .
Any and all thoughts welcome !

 

Most people around here like to run full synthetic since it is a relatively infrequent change. Mobil 1 full synthetic is probably the most popular choice for those 3 around here. I did my swap at 2000 miles just to get the break in stuff out and used walmart supertech 75w90 "synthetic blend" in mine. I didn't notice any difference after the change. I may switch to synthetic in my next change. Honestly it probably doesn't matter what you use if you are changing it every 15k as long as it is the correct weight.

 

I use MOBIL1 75w90 in the rear diff and SuperTech 75w90 in the front diff and transfer case

 

Lucas 75w90 is where it's at. Some people have reported a "choppiness" in the diff when using sythentic, but I think you'll be okay.

Yeah I was going through the same issue. The rear diff isn't hard to change, so you could run conventional and be able to change it with ease. In the front, I'd probably run synthetic just because it's more difficult to access the components up there. I'm running synthetic in the rear and haven't had any problems whatsoever. My differential hadn't been changed in over 100k and synthetic worked like it should.

 

in the sports yes..... Even then I think it was pre 2010???????

 

Using Redline synthetic- recently changed my fluids-still running dino oil in the engine. Tracking MPG now not ready to call it yet but I a running about .75 mpg gain not quite a full 1 mpg. I have historically seen some sort of gains with this brand but its not cheap oil.

 

Always ran syn........ Never noticed a difference..... I still get 21 highway....... That's all imma say, too many ppl get butthurt when I post other numbers.

Mobil 1 75w-90 synthetic. I think its a little cheaper than redline or lucas products but it still works great for me. I change it in 15K intervals.

Ran Mobil 1 of the proper wt and GL rating in the Torsen diff of my street/race car for over 100k. Many a hard launch. Doubled the OE change interval, no issues. New owner has continued same pattern, everything still working fine.

If you aren't going to increase the OCI, just using the correct dino is fine.

The OE recommendations on this stuff have a LOT of head room. Engineers and bean counters working together to avoid warranty issues is a lethal combination for overkill.
