Cab noise

I did the same exact thing on my 05 Tacoma with rubberized undercoating and I sprayed a crap load let it dry and sprayed again...I didn't notice a damn thing doing what the OP did..just saying. It takes way more then rubber coating to reduce noise

The difference is the 16's have VERY sloppy rear vents... and I believe the most noise came into the cab "around" them... during the spray session I had with them... I sealed the MF'ers good... (that'll learn them, right)..... hehe

No problem now... My truck is quieter then the ole' lady's car... hehe

 

You have to be kidding? Truck is at the dealer. Toyota said no fix for it. I'm selling it back to them. Next Thursday is 30 days in the shop.

 

I'll agree. At highway speeds over 60 I can hear the sound by the front doors of the truck but below that it is very quiet.

 

I guess I got lucky on the noise. Mine is as quiet as a Mercedes on the highway. No exaggeration. Now the leaks? That's a different darned story.

That spray is not a sound deadening compound and it is extremely unhealthy to have such horrible VOC's off gassing inside your cab. When that stuff gets hot it is going to continue to release VOC's for a while. Did you look at the MSDS sheets for that spray ? Seriously ...why wouldn't you just use a true sound deadening material such as Dynamat ?

Edit - I just checked the MSDS sheets from US Chem for that stuff and it is in no way intended to be used in a interior application. It has some seriously nasty shit in it and tops out as the highest fire danger rating possible.

 

Mine has a sticker in the rear of the front door jam that says "Made in Mexico." Don't think you need to decipher VINs to figure that one out.

 

I have a serious question.... Does anyone have this noise from the rear vents when the cabin recirculation is active? I'm wondering if the non recirculation is forcing the vents to crack open and let noise in

 

I think that the rear vents are supposed to open as much as required for door closing and fan speed etc. There are 4 flaps in each of the 2 vents...8 flaps in total....the normal fan might partially open 2...??

In my truck, I'm convinced that 60% of the road noise I had was coming in "around" those vents because they are a "very sloppy" fit. If you grab the vent from inside the cab and pull inward, the vent will move almost 1/4" toward you. The only thing on it to seal is is a strip of "rubber" 1/2" wide that runs all around the vent. That 1/4" play is enough to make that "weather strip" non-functional, in my opinion.

The other 40% of the road noise was from the metal wall of the cab....

After sealing those vents AND covering the cab wall, I reduced the road noise substantialy (50%?), in my opinion...

My Taco is now quieter than the "ole ladie's 2014 Corolla LE.....(with regards to road noise)...

 

Over 60 - Any update on this thread here or elsewhere. Mine was a November 16 Texas build and it has a nasty noise mainly only on rough surfaced roads. I am thinking of trying the vent sealing method to see if I can reduce the whine. I originally had Duratracs and they were unbearable so changed tires but still would like to quiet it down if possible.

Sound level not affected by recirc position, reat seats (access cab) up-down, or whatever.

 

No.. the only update that I can offer is I am now very happy with what I did to quiet the road noise from the rear of the Truck... I ride with the rear seats down all the time, so it's very important to me to soundproof back there...!! If I was to do it again, I think I might try the panel and stick sound deadner on the rear wall AND seal "around" those sloppy vents... don't mess with the vents themselves.... but seal AROUND them....

I might even add that if I can get a good deal somewhere on peel n stick sound deadner....

I drove my dclb trd sport for 4000km the last two days. Not much noise to hear or maybe my tunes were cranked at 45 lol

 

Yeah.. I'm hard of hearing and now run my tunes at 30 level with the back seats down...

 

16 TRD OR access cab, terrible road noise from behind the rear bulkhead wall at highway speeds. Tore out the flip downs, the plastic moulding, dynomat'd the whole wall, sealed around the vents and stuck a 1/2" piece of dynomatt on each of the vent flaps to add weight in the hopes of helping keep them closed. I didn't want to block the vents all together. I'll highway test in the AM. Thanks yall for the feedback. Fingers crossed.

 

Road test complete. The truck is quieter and traffic noise re vehicles passing is all but eliminated however there is still a lot of wind noise from behind the bulkhead. Sounds like the side access door seals are missing but there not. I've convinced myself that this is the result of air flowing over the cab and across the bed (don't ask why I'm convinced). But my quest for piece and quiet isn't over..........

 

I realized this is an old post in a recently bumped thread, but... clearly you've never owned a Mercedes. My '06 ML350 was 10x quieter than my '16 Taco. No comparison. (So was my '07 335i, and the '06 C230. Even the '05 330Ci was quieter.)

As for newer luxury cars, some of those are so quiet the sound of the engine (and general exterior noise) gets piped in via microphones through speakers just so the driver doesn't feel like they're in a tomb.

I'm planning on sound-deadening the crap out of my interior in the coming months. Way too much unnecessary noise. Unacceptable for a 2016 model.
